she was sorry that night
he blacked her eye
engulfing waves of relief
he sleeps, she wont die
even sorrier the day
she got in his way
cracked ribs and concussion
"but i love you" he,d say
remorsefull and pathetic
when he lost his job
a re-arranged nose she got
then into hiding, to sob
when she asked him for money
he turned with a frown
she spent weeks as a patient
feeling nothing from the waist down
one day a burnt meal
again warrants that frown
she calls on a memory
nothing from the waist down
she cowers in a corner
knowing he is near
a sharp weapon in hand
no longer will she fear
the act of defence
is delivered with force
no longer is she sorry
nor filled with remorse !
