I know we have a 'What are you reading now' topic, but I think we should have something where people can recommend good books they have read in the past, or can come and ask for recommendations if they want a good book to read.
(Don't know if this will take off, but nothing ventured...)
I thought about this because I need a good book to read, something either non-fiction, or very true to life. Anybody got anything they could recommend?

Give us a hint what interests you Baggie? Apart from footie, I am clueless what you might find interesting.

This had me laughing for a long time

Excellent excellent literature, literature that anyone can read, a million times better than the film
I have always reccomended these two books with this question on other forums and the response has always been one of thanks and gratitude.
They are.

I read this before stallone got his hands on the film.
As good as the movie first blood was with stallone (nothing to do with the following rambo films) The book by Morell is just fantastic.
Forget about stallone and his crusades, this novel tops all four rambo episodes together.

Anything by Douglas Adams is excellent.

While I love the Dirk Gently books I wouldn't say they were non-fiction or very true to life.

Was just talking about that one with someone, she said she'd love it to be made into a film. Can't see it's likely though.

I've only read a couple of Terry Pratchett (sp?) books and really enjoyed them. I will have to give this book a look. Thanks TW.

It may be good as a film, but the saying does ring true, always, the book is always better than the film.
Which is why I have no fear in recommeding the afore mentioned novels.
I also say that Red Dragon by Thomas Harris is far superior than either of the two versions put on film. the book silence of the lambs though is identical to the film, crap.

Yes. Red Dragon is a really good read. I preferred it a hell of a lot more than Silence of the Lambs.

Until Baggy is a bit more specific I can't really say what he should read. Non-fiction and true to life is a bit vast.
I've not had a great deal of time for reading lately

True for that reason it's definitely better to see the films before reading the books, the other way round is bound to disappoint.
I have a copy of Red Dragon somewhere that was given to me, but I've never read it as I was put off by the Silence of the Lambs, maybe I should hunt it down.
