You walk in the room,
my body goes tense,
you look up and smile,
my knees go weak
i open my mouth but i cannot speak
an invisible force is holding me back
stopping me saying what i want to and need to
your smile fades away as i glance back
i hang my head in shame, i leave as quick as i can
i get in the car and scream at myself
why is it so hard to talk to her.

she answers the phone whenever i'm calling
always friendly and polite
but i cant say what i want to
what is this thing that's holding me back
just as well i work alone
for the shit that happens after i hang up the phone
knuckles bleeding and a croaky voice
somethings holding me back and i have no choice
I'm running out of time but i don't know what to do

So i make a pledge, that i'll do it next time
maybe tomorrow, my new favourite line
but i know that no matter what
i'll never ask her and she'll look on
i'll beat my self up, over what i should have done
so i'm going to accept this fate of mine
i'll never say what i want to in time...

That may be true, but recently meeting a couple I knew 35 years ago, I was reminded how timid I was back then, so I DO know how hard it is. I sat on a school bus for 5 years and barely spoke a word!!So not as easy as it sounds for shy people
