What do you class as heavy? I think this needs answering to be honest with you!!

My likes at the moment:-

Iron Maiden (top top top band in the world ever)
Metallica
Evanesence
Korn
Rage Against the Machine
Disturbed
Drowning Pool
Papa Roach
Nickelback
Some Slayer
Sister of Mercy
Medina Lake

There are loads more, i just cant think right now...but then i dont think they are heavy (mostly) because when i have tried listening to Devildriver and Hatebreed, THEY are heavy!

That's a pretty good line up of music right there. I've seen a fair few heavy metal bands live (metallica and Iron maiden are the big ones) but the best band i've ever seen was Trivium when they played in Oxford. It was their first tour after Ascendency and they were still pretty unkown. i was front row (already a huge fan of them) and just basically loved every minute. It was an awesome gig.

Listening to a bit of Killswitch Engage now, and pretending to work...

I'm a rock DJ, no really... bit of a sideline really but it can be fun!

The definition of what is heavy metal constantly shifts. And people's definition of what is heavy metal is subjective. The dictionary definition is:

"aggressive and heavily amplified rock music, commonly performed by groups that wear spectacular or bizarre costumes."

What falls into what genre is so clouded these days with all the millions of sub-genres. I find it hard to classify music these days.

What was considered heavy metal when I was growing up was Iron Maiden, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, and that sort of thing. But now heavy metal is more like Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Slipknot, and Stone Sour. I personally love the old school metal, Maiden being my all time favourite, been to see them live twice since 2003. The metal scene is thriving in Plymouth right now, although it's a shame that the live scene is dying on it's arse right now.

If you do get a chance to see Maiden live, DO IT as they are the best live band I have ever seen, it's more like that theatrical performance than a gig.

And thanks for the welcome Smile

I like the full range from Soft Rock right through to Death Metal.
My favorites are mainly in the middle ground.
