They evolved from the punk scene... you tell me Paul Di'Anno is not a punk...
I never said they weren't punk but the speed of the first album is pure punk... Charlot the Harlot definately has that... They just went beyond and actually learnt to play

Iron maiden punk, LMFAO nice one, maiden are about as rock as you can hope to get, i dont give a shit where rock, metal whatever came from, what it is now is whats being debated, and while they may have some punk influences, they are rock/metal!!
just in case you try and argue heres a quote for you.

| Punk rock served as a reaction against 1970s popular music such as disco music, heavy metal, progressive rock and arena rock. Punk also rejected the remnants of the 1960s hippie counterculture. |
maiden are progessive/metal, punk came to light because of that style.

| Depends what you define as metal. If you take the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) as the start of metal then punk predates it, however Sabbath was around before punk (but I don't know when they were defined as heavy metal - they almost started the genre themselves...) |
yeah i do lolz, old metal sabbath etc i grew up with it, hence why i really count metal coming from back then . maybe it's just down to personal opinion

I think punk was more a reaction against the musical snobs that were around in the 70's. People who got on there high horses and said Deep purple and status Quo etc, were a higher form of music then Reggae and Soul.
Punk Rock was mainly just fun and put a smile back on music that had started to become too serious. It wasn't a reaction against Disco music because it grew out of Disco clubs but we didn't like hippies.

If that's serious then my hat is off to you sir...
yes Maiden is NWOBHM, almost a foundin band, so obviously they are metal...
Anyway, I think we'd all best agree to disagree

Just said i would list really the three best punk bands ever that may help define what punk is... The Clash, Sex Pistols and Ramones. They are regarded as the founders of punk and in my view gods! Joe Strummer wrote some of the best lyrics and music i've ever heard.
Sorry but i really dont think iron maiden are punk, it must have been an influence on them but thats all.

The music the original punks mainly listened to was dub music. I dont really consider the clash to be a punk band, but they were a great group. I saw them in 1978 and they were brilliant.
Punks finished in 1977-78, when Malcolm Mclaren and Vivienne Westwood started selling designer gear down the Kings Road..by 1979-80 real punks no longer existed. It was really a fashion between 1974-78.

| define: NWOBHM
The New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) emerged in the late 1970s, in part a reaction to the decline (or over-popularity, and therefore 'untouchable' status) of traditional heavy metal bands such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. It was also a reaction against punk, although it incorporated many of British punk's innovations, and some of its aesthetic. |
Like ive said many times before, each genre has tinges of other genres thrown in LOL, but ill agree to disagree for sure.
