I feel sure it was a female group that relesed the track.

Did a google for you Bernard and came up with "Freak like me" Sugababes.
Would this be the one?

I've heard of Pure Orange by Five Alive, but never Feel Alive

Different, a bit faster than Newman's version, don't much cater for singing in it, but certainly like the music to it.
Now I wonder if I could find an instrumental version only.

Was never released as a dub version to my knowledge. Was on the Stealth record label so could try that.
