On the contrary, I am content in my solitude on the subject.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion - but no-one has actually given a reason *why* any of Cobain’s songs are ‘genius’. His work was interesting (and certainly thought-provoking), to say the very least, but hardly verging on ‘genius’! In all my years working in the music industry (in one guise or another) I have never come across a true lyrical ‘genius’ that I can think of off the top of my head (although there are a handful of instrumentalists that I might bestow the term ‘genius’ upon without a second thought).
Personally, I thought both Grohl and Novoselic’s contributions were hugely under-rated at the time, and they were over-shadowed by Cobain – I regard the subsequent works of both of them (including minor collaborations with the likes of Chan Marshall and Greg Dulli, and even with the more-commercial Eyes Adrift project) as having as much value as anything that Cobain is known for.
