I'm rather fond Stravinsky's Firebird Suite and although it's a rather cliched choice I like Glynt's In the Hall of the Mountain King.
Quite like Holst, Bach, and Shernberg

| I *think* its called Enigma Variations on a theme by Thomas Tallis, but not splitting hairs hehe. Its by Vaughn Williams, yes another beautiful piece of music. |
Apologies for splitting more hairs, and not that it really matters, but the piece is called Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis. The Enigma Variations are a separate piece, written by Elgar. They're both fantastic.
Actually, Thomas Tallis is a brilliant composer in his own right, and not just because of the 40-part motet Spem in alium that everyone raves about. As is Orlando Gibbons; This is the Record of John is a particular favourite of mine.

Sorry again, but you mean Grieg. Oh dear, not making myself very popular! It's from the Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, which could be what's confusing you. And it is great, clichéd or otherwise.
One of my all-time favourites, though, is Herbert Howells. He's not well-known outside church music circles (and scarcely at all on Classic FM), but he was a great admirer of Vaughan Williams. His Requiem is too gorgeous for words. In fact, I think I'll have to listen to it now...

ykwsg - I must thank you for correcting me! Can you believe what a dork I was. You are of course right, it is fantasia on a theme and not enigma variations, in fact as soon as I read that I thought "hhhmm, someone got that wrong" then realised 'anonymous' was me!
I must have been half asleep, good job paganpoetry was my pal and wont make me feel even more stupid!
