As the Worst Cover Version has undergone a renaissance recently, I thought I would drag up this thread (to be honest I wasn't sure it existed, but I deduced that it would.) That and I was listening to Hurt by Johnny Cash.

Some of mine

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen)
Hurt - Johnny Cash (Nine Inch Nails)
The Man Who Sold The World - Nirvana (David Bowie)
All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix (Bob Dylan)
I fought the Law - The Clash (Sonny Curtis and the Crickets)

That is indeed a brilliant one, and I don't know how I could have forgotten it, or their cover of Jolene either.

I'd also like to add Joey Ramones What a Wonderful World. It managed to sound like the Ramones without spoiling the song too.
The ramones as a band did do some wonderful covers, Baby I love you, and Needles and Pins being just two.

The Killers doing anything by Joy Division will be awful, I don't need to hear it to know that. However, I won't say for definite that I know that until I hear it.

Book of Love by Peter Gabriel is pretty immense and beautiful. The Magnetic Fields version is immense, but Peter Gabriel added something else to it.

The Muppets - Bohemian Rhapsody. I think the muppets can do anything they like and it'd be awesome. And I really don't like Queen that much anyway.

Going to throw Hounds of Love by the Futureheads into the mix too, originally done by Kate Bush.

I drove all night- Cyndi Lauper amazing version of the Orbison classic

Johnny Cash- Rusty Cage Soundgarden Cover

Shine- Dolly Parton covering a Collective Soul number

Drift Away (live)- Bon Jovi- covering Dobie Grey

Cars- Fear Factory- Covering Gary Numan

and Weird Al's version of Gangster's Paradise- classic.

Worst cover ever is Ronan Keating destroying Iris by Goo Goo Dolls...or possibly that terrible Glee club version of Journey's Don't stop Believing.
They both require a flying headbutt to the groin.
