The best cover ever is Jeff Buckley's version of Lenard Cohns "hallelujah".

No particular order, except for the first artist...
Johnny Cash - Hurt (NIN) and If You Could Read My Mind (Gordon Lightfoot)
Smashing Pumpkins - Landslide (Fleetwood Mac)
Manic Street Preachers - Suicide Is Painless (Cast of M*A*S*H)
Nightwish - Over The Hills And Far Away (Gary Moore)
Within Temptation - Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush)
Disturbed - Land Of Confusion (Genesis)

Unlike a lot of people, I love cover versions. I remember a couple of years ago Jo Whiley was slagging off the very idea of covers on Radio 1 - so, I e-mailed her and told her "Jo, if you were out to provoke a reaction, or a debate, it worked - what about the Manics' Suicide Is Painless?" She reluctantly conceded I did have a point. Very Happy

Ah, good, another covers nut Smile

As well as all those I’ve mentioned at various times in this thread, I recently dug up Alabama 3’s cover of "Hotel California" and (for the mellower moments) Nils Lofgren’s cover of "All I Have To Do Is Dream". Not my all-time favourite covers, but still quite good.

Still can't decide which is my all-time favourite cover, but Die Toten Hosens' unplugged version of "Guns Of Brixton" (from the 'Nur zur Besuch - Unplugged im Wiener Burgtheater' album) is pretty high on my list.

(And I agree with Shinjitsu, I want to know why they switched the colours of the cheese & onion and salt & vinegar crisp packets? What’s that all about? I still open the wrong ones……)

Roxy Music - Jealous Guy
Nelly Furtado - Crazy
Housemartins - Caravan Of Love

Oh, and another cover I played today was Ed Kuepper's version of "Highway To Hell" (3 versions on 3 different albums, an acoustic version, a studio version, and a live version - spoilt for choice)

(For those who don't know, Ed Kuepper was one of the founder members of The Saints - don't know who The Saints were? Sigh......1976, (I'm)Stranded.....No? Never mind.....)

Haven't decided whether it's my favourite cover, but Amy Winehouse singing 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow' sends shivers up my spine.

I've never really got the whole Winehouse thing, I thought she was no more than a reasonably talented eejit. But her voice in this song....wow.

You mean I have to look this up on YouTube myself? Huh!

Think I prefer the Cat Power cover. And while I'm on the subject of Chan....
Wonderwall without Liam Gallagher - bliss!
