I have added a few more tracks to this list. I will keep adding more classic tracks from 1977 as I find them.

I didn't say they were all quality songs. These are just the songs I can find from 1977 as this is supposed to be a 1977 only punk compilation to relect what it was like in 1977 in the emerging punk scene. The Ramones did some pretty dire stuff in their later years, experimenting with other styles of music such as heavy metal and even rap with Dee Dee writing a solo rap album under the name of Dee Dee King.

i got pretty bored of the 77 era of punk rock pretty fast, the majority of the bands are all 'has beens' now and not many of them stand for the same morals anymore,

82 is the year of punk rock in my eyes, with bands suh as Crass and Zounds(who formed in 77) peaking and remaining at that peak ever since!

if any band needs credited for punk in 70's then its THIN LIZZY all the way!!!!

i dont really agree in crediting one artist for a particular movement, as everything that has come before it, has played a vital role at arriving at that musical destination and shaping it. i agree that thin lizzy may have been a stepping stone towards punk rock, but you could also say the same about bands like the doors, the stones and virtually any band that stood for an anti establishment cause/ideal.

never meant to come across saying that they were the sole reason punk came about, just expressing that i feel they are a major influence.

and anti-establishment/rebellious music i guess goes back too many years to count (Swing music was seen as rebellious in 20/40's and bagpipes were outlawed for centuries, but people still played it.)...so i guess punk has always been around one way or another.

Thin Lizzy were heavy metal though weren't they? By the way the 1982 era punk bands were Abrasive Wheels, Discharge, Mau Maus, Disorder, Chaos UK, Conflict, GBH, Chron Gen, The Partisans, The Exploited, One Way System, Vice Squad, Peter and The Test Tube Babies, The Destructors, The Subhumans, The Adicts, Special Duties etc.

Most of those bands had formed a couple of years before or even as far back as 1977 but hadn't got famous until 1982. I might do a 1982 era punk song list soon. In the meantime here is a punk nostalgia song by Special Duties from 1997 called I Wish It Could Be '77 (all over again) about the 1977 punk era.
