23.03.2009, 20:40 quote
Duke Ellington: Reminising in Tempo, a haunting tribute to his recently (at the time of composing) departed mother.
Billie Holiday: I'm a Fool to Want You, maybe it's the sad lamenting lyrics or perhaps its the years of drug, physical and emotinal abuse which have cause her voice to crack, but this song is a true tear jerker.

Stay Together by Seude
| Quote: |
| Come to my house tonight
We can be together in the nuclear sky And we will dance in the poison rain And we can stay a while in heaven today Lets stay together Lets stay, these days are ours Lets die together? Two hearts under the skyscrapers Theres a time bomb in the high rise Theres a blue suburban dream Will I see you up in paradise Or have you come to catch me? Come to my arms tonight Just you and me together under electric light And she will dance in the poison air And we can stay together Two hearts under the skyscrapers Theres a time bomb in the high rise Theres a blue suburban dream Will I see you up in paradise Or have you come to catch me? Come to my arms Im lost Just you and me together in the year of the horse Single file in the nuclear night And we could feel a little closer As we tumble through the sky Lets stay together, lets stay these days are ours Lets stay together Two hearts under a skyscraper Lets stay together, lets stay in this broken down love Lets stay together, two hearts under the skyscrapers |
And The video for Coffee & TV by Blur makes me cry (It's a milk carton FFS Jem get a grip!!)

I'd say it's Gloomy Sunday by Billie Holiday.
Billie Holidays version has a third verse that was never in the Hungarian original, about it being a dream.
There has been a lot of Urban legends spring up around this song, about supposed suicides upon hearing it. The only confirmed suicide I believe is the original Hungarian writer, which I guess is understandable if you listen to the lyrics.
However, it's haunting, but beautiful.

If the topic is sad songs then this one is very drepressing:
Assemblage 23 - Disappoint
Addmittedly, it's not about breaking up with someone you love. Nothing to do with that, but it's sad none the less.
It's a letter to the guy's mother after she committed suicide. Or at least, that's what I think he's singing about.
