As for your main point, I'm sorry but you just can't expect replies from people. If you get them, then it's nice, but if not, forget it.
There could be any number of reasons not to reply. A lot of the time i don't reply myself. It's not that i'm rude or ignorant, i just sometimes can't find time or can't think how to say no without being unintentionally nasty. The last thing i want to do is upset people, but i'm afraid i don't have much tact.

I always reply if someone messages me, even if just to say no thank-you - in the same manner as I would reply if someone spoke to me in person. I do not view conduct on-line to being any different to conduct in real-life. Courtesy is courtesy. If someone is ignorant on-line then they are likely to be ignorant in real-life - not forgetting that Hannibal Lecter only ever ate the rude. From his standpoint, I am most certainly quids in... including low salt, pepper and chilli sauce!
