Thanks to all the people posting here, the comments, the do's and don'ts etc. But things are looking up. A few near misses and a few awkward encounters but I've connected with someone totally awesome via the whole online dating game.

I'm not giving specifics, but will say that with the right approach there's always hope. Never give up (although I was pretty quick after only a couple of weeks) and don't take rejection personally. Be strong be persistent, be smart, be funny, be yourself.

Oh yes, we do like to hear of some successful encounters hope it all goes well.

You'd have to define 'successful encounter'!
But I had an encounter with someone over the weekend that I met thru FB.
We walked in The Dales and successfully encountered mainly sheep. But we also passed many other walkers, who nodded and smiled and said, 'Hello,' or 'All right!' etc.

A very pleasant, energetic day, full of scarecrows!
(I've never seen so many in one place, at one time, before! )
