| Ultimatly all relationships fail... (bitter and twisted Steven there for a minute, sorry)
If you put in the work to a long distance relationship then there is no reason why it shouldn't last as long as any other. The ending is worse than usual because it has to be done remotely, its not fair to drive 230 miles to be told 'sorry its all over', and 230 back again in an upset state (the timing can be picked carefully though). If it becomes permanent relationship - marriage or living together, then by default it has to fail as a long distance relationship when one of you moves near the other one. Its then a normal relationsip. Just a thought on the love thing though. If thats all you want from a realtionship then there are plenty of locals who would do that without any strings attached. OK you might have to pay, but it would be cheaper and less hassle than the travel costs, the accomodation, meals, weekends away together, evenings out, phone calls, all the little things that make life a bit more fun. |
I agree totally with your last paragraph SP. Why go to all that bother for just a sexual relationship. You wouldn't even necassarily have to pay for it locally. I'm sure there are plenty of people about happy enough for something 'just' sexual.

Well Red, Im sure there are loads of people who want something just sexual... just not where I tend to go out

Perhaps you're not getting drunk enough, or obvious enough
On the rare occasion i go pubbing, the guys that usually lear my way are usually very drunk, and very obvious. They're the ones i run from!! lol

Wow Peachy. Respect to you. It takes courage to move any distance to be with someone.
Good luck to you both.

I live in Hastings and had a relationship with a man in The Hague. It used to take me 5 hours to get there by Eurostar and 3 hours to get back, because of the time difference. I enjoyed the journey, watching the different types of people on the train and station in Brussels, where I changed for the Hague train - their foreign clothes, newspapers and magazines, hearing people talk in various languages etc. Just being "abroad" made it more exciting. Soon, the trip became so routine I stopped looking out of the train window!
Cost me £100 each trip and I'd go for the weekend, leaving here on Fridays at noon and arriving about 5pm and leaving Monday morning and getting home about 11am. (He worked M-F 9-5 hours you see.)
It worked, because neither of us was high-maintenance. We appreciated our time together. We spoke on email every day and on the phone on the weekends I didn't go over.
We split up for reasons totally unconnected with the distance.
