Well I met my fiance online 4 years ago. I did have a problem telling my parents where we met, but not anymore, I'm proud to say it

I think it is still considered sad for young people to meet online, but i really dont care to be honest! Just want to find the girl who is perfect for me, however that comes to pass is ok with me.

My last proper Girlfreind I met online, but we both agreed at the time not to tell anybody the truth how we met, if anybody asked it was " we met in the pub". Embarassed

I don't know if people belived us or not, as she lives in Southport & I in Wigan lol.

Even to this day when people ask how did you really meet her, I still don't tell them even thou she my ex now, as I don't want people to consider me somekind of sad geek for meeting somebody online.

So if you folks meet somebody online, do you tell other people when they ask the truth or a porky. Wink

nothing wrong with meeting someone online it happens all the time. people just don't admit it enough. doesn't make you a geek. just means you'd rather not go to a bar and pick up someone there.

if you picked someone up in a nightclub and brought them home (which does happen) what's to say they aren't total assholes?

if you meet someone online at least you have an idea what they are like before you meet them.

but then again they could be just great actors.... i can testify to that one.

I think that it is a sad reflection on peoples perception of cool that it is seen as 'sad or geeky' to meet someone online.
I have dated online on and off for the last 5 years and never have a problem admitting it if people ask.
I hate the meat markets of clubs and bars and what do I know of someone that I meet in a club, the likelihood is, if it is going to be a wierdo it is more likely to be some drunk in the local All Bar One that someone from a dating site.
There was a survey in the Evening Standard recently and they concluded that 1 in 3 single Londoners will try internet dating this year, that;s a lot of people making the jump from 'conventional' dating.
And what could be more old fashioned than online dating really.... love letters (e mails) taking it slow, getting to know someone before you jump into bed with them. I feel it is taking the rules back to basics again!
Just my 2 pennythworth for what it is worth.
