Give us a figure to play with. I don't even start looking until I know the money I have for spending, travel and accomodation costs.

I got away to Italy for about £150 or so including all flight costs and accommodation for about 7-8 days. It might even have been less, I'd have to check.

Is that for everything, or is spending money something you'll find. I'm not exactly loaded, either, which is why i do my best to learn what I can get within a certain budget It's always fun to do, even if I don't end up going.

Oh, one more thing, where are you travelling from ?

That depends entirely on you. I went to Ireland with my brother, we fell out and ended up going our own ways until we had to meet to get the plane home. It was good, I liked it. I met people I knew and sort-of knew on the way, so I wasn't 100% alone, but I was alone enough to know that I can handle it & enjoy myself.

Also, I guess being a bloke helps a bit as does, being a geek. I would be quite happy to chat to random people on the web and go to a place where there's someone I've managed to get on with for a while. I would plan for the eventually that they were a bit strange, or failed to make contact once I arrived, so that the holiday would still work regardless. I've sorta done that, in so far as I've been part of one online community for years and go to meets in different cities and stayed at the houses of people I chatted to on there. I've only had to pay for my accommodation a few times. Abroad would be a totally different sort of thing. I did that in Ireland but, although I hadn't met the person before, I knew people who'd met that person, so I knew they were safe.

In this case, I'll see what I can rustle up when I have a spare bit of time.

No idea. I'll follow my nose. Ryan air are doing some deals at the moment, where certain flights at certain times are really cheap. I believe they're even cutting out the tax to get the price down. I'll start there, and then let my mind wonder. You've said scotland, so I'll look there too. Have you been to Edinburgh ? Or are you thinking somewhere more out of town in Scotland ?

I've been to Edinburgh twice and it's really worth it... I've only been there for the week end. I'm sure Ryan Air has cheap flights to get there and for accomodation, http://www.visitscotland.com/ you can check this link or call the tourist board to book a B&B.

Now that i'm single i find hard to go on holidays as i hate travelling on my own... i wonder if we shouldn't open a post for single people who want to travel but can't find anyone to go with....

Flights with ryan air in July are looking quite cheap. I saw return cost for as little as £65 quid or so. That leaves you with around £185 for accommodation and spending. How long you can stay there would depend on how you want to split that between those two things. It'd also be a good idea to read about what's to see and do there, and have a rough plan of what you'd like to do.

If you go with them, though, don't forget that you don't really need travel insurance when travelling within the EU. Take a look for more info on that via the link below.

Also, if going with Ryan air it's worth taking note of their weight limit on hand luggage. If you can get all you need within that limit, then you will save a few quid by not requiring additional baggage space.

i can get a flight 2 scotland with ryanair for 55euro lol

Oh, I was under the impression that taxes swallowed up much of what they charged when I had a look just now. Anyway, there you go, you have your flight, you just have to sort out where to say and how long for, unless you want other ideas to choose between ?

I'm too far south for that. France or Holland is closer than Scotland. My last trip to Scotland was a very long coach trip from London, which took about 9-10hrs. My arse was numb and I was tired. I'm flying if I ever go up there again!

Depends what part of Scotland. If we were talking about Edinburgh then about the same as what it would cost you. Just getting to Glasgow is about £40, but I'd need my fare to the airport and the train from Glasgow to Edinburgh on top of that. It's not that much I spent £40 just going on trains to the other side of England last weekend.

You can look into all of that to put your mind at rest before going, and look at it this way, it's an adventure. They (sorta anyway) speak English so help is always available. I had loads of fun last year trying to get help from Italians. I could tell a couple of stories about that. My was quite stressed about, which was funny because it was me sorting everything out, but I just found it an interesting challenge. it It's always good to do things you've not done before. It'll make you feel happier about travelling further or doing more complicated things if it ever takes your fancy.

I can't during the next 6 weeks or so. I've committed myself to doing about as much as I can afford to do at the moment. I might change my mind if my work situation changes, though. Right now, though, my current contract is up at the end of July and I dunno what's happening next. I'm waiting to hear whether I have a 9 month contract doing a better job at the moment Very Happy My fingers are firmly crossed.
