I went to Malta a while ago and I'd recommend it to anyone. Try a spot like Buggiba and you'll have loads to do. People are friendly and mix with tourists unlike most resorts I know.

Anyone know knows me, knows I would recommend the Canaries, well not Lanzarote! but the weather in Feb isnt great! So I think it depends if your looking for some sun or just to escape the 'V' day Smile
Ps can I join you, if your escaping the v day lol.

If you do get to Bugibba in Malta, I'd suggest Vinney's cafe if you're looking for somewhere to eat. Excellent food and great service and not expensive at all. Try the Swordfish steak there, it's to die for and I'd suggest trying Bragioli too.

Not sure you'd like the Greek Islands in February - it's the 'close' season. Besides you'll find better weather in other parts of the Med and North Africa at that time of year. As per other suggestions above, Canaries and Malta would be good.

But, other than budget constraints, why limit yourself to Europe? Egypt is good for winter breaks, as is the Far East if time and budget will stretch that far.

Good luck and enjoy, you lucky so and so

As it happens, the Far East is more economical. While air fare is more expensive, cost of living is really cheap and so it hotel accommodation. Don't opt for a package deal, go for the flight and sort out the hotel when you get there and you'll save yourself hundreds.

I had 2 thousand pounds to go to Philippines, stayed for a month and still came back with 750 and that included the air fare and a self catering hotel! I wasn't being tight either, I spent a lot while I was there and stayed in Makati City which is the Mayfair of Manila and probably the most expensive area to stay. It cost me 250 quid for a month in the hotel, that's less than you'd pay here for a months rent on a flat.

What you save on the cost of living in the Far East easily makes up for the extra air fare. Just don't get ripped off by package deals.

Also remember that a hotel room costs a fixed price abroad no matter whether there's 1, 2 or 10 people staying in it. Package deals here make you pay for the room twice when booking two people and you still pay extra for a single supplement if you go alone - RIP OFF!
ALWAYS book your own when you get there or for safety, book it direct with the hotel before you leave.

Croatia might be worth a look. It's relatively cheap as a holiday destination and it's surprisingly nice. Decent weather, hotels, bars etc.

Sounds like very good advice and well I'll try not let myself get into the whole package holiday stuff but I'm not that experienced with travelling abroad and air flights etc.. we'll see how motivated I get!
