Home >> Fun & Games >> Is she a scammer ? !
27.07.2010, 14:21 quote
Hi everyone, I recently made contact with a member here online. We exchanged a little hello and then she asked if we could chat through email. On her profile she said she was english but then revealed she was in fact Russian in her email and appologised for being dishonest but she had a problem setting up an account in Russian on this. Hmmm. Anyway, im not very savvy with this sort of thing. Has anyone seen or heard of this type of thing here yet? Is this the start of a long scam were she needs money down the line... is this textbook scamming 101? or am I just as paranoid as the KGB ..

What's her profile?
Sounds a bit like a scammer, but until she asks for your credit card just assume she's ok. The IP blocking is a known problem for genuine Russians, Ukrainians, etc.

rorymo, there couldn't be too much of causiousness, what if next day you discover she sent you fake photos or the like... At any rate she might leave the corresponding field for country empty... On the other hand you can be just over-worried and time will answer your question!.. btw, the subject about secret service agent was already discussed in my thread
bounderushu, it's not me, moreover you know the password...lol

I get a few messages like that. Usually they send 1 message per week, and no matter what you reply, they just ignore it and send you an email address with a line like: "I read your profile, you sound interesting. Please contact me through my email address ******@*******.*** and we can get to know each other." Then, you find they haven't viewed your profile, or their profile contains the line 'god fearing' etc. The pic is usually glam - with Ukranian bone structure or a stock model catalogue image, and set in the US, but the content doesn't match it - like: "I may be small but I have a lot to offer" - and their height is 5'8" etc and they put their mis-spelled location as plymouth, glasgow, london, scotland i.e near a port or airport. Gets really really wearing, esp when you see the same images on other sites, but with differing details - or if you search the addy on google or yahoo either nothing comes up - not even a profile on MSN or YM if you add and search them, or the first part of their email addy, like: lisa4love etc. when you run it typically comes up registered on a scam warning website, with a pic of a male criminal from another country beside it. nice.

ignore anyone who says they viewed ur profile but didnt. it will be a scammer. They nearly always have a yahoo email addy. They nearly always say dont reply on here use the email addy. They want ur email cause u would be suprissed what info they can get from it and they can hack ur pc through it and get ur bank details if u do online banking. Get info on everyone on ur email list and do the same to them. Use a site to talk to ppl till u get to know them. If they keep asking u to email them block them. Ive co-owned and been staff on loads of chat sites and learned most of the tricks they use. Like u will get loads of msgs saying the same thing but from diff ppl.Saying there from 1 country on the profile but a diff 1 when they chat and saying its cause the site is blocked in their country is bad news. If their blocked they wont be able to get on just by saying a diff country on their profile. U can get round the country block by using proxy servers but u can still put the correct country not the proxy country.
