With the success of the English test, here is another older test from the BBC, which tries to simulate the infamous 11+.

This is the divisive test that was used to grade children and that was at heart of some of the bitterest discussions about education.

Essentially it was an intelligence test that tested future potential. Pass it and you want to the "best" schools, fail it and you get taught woodwork Crying or Very sad

This one is timed, via a pair of buttons, and will give you a grade at the end. Good luck ...

I did it when it was first published and I can't remember my score but I remember that I passed.

I passed it when I took it for real as well.

Grammar beckons!
You've scored 10 out of 15.

I guessed the number ones and got most of them wrong!

Shame it was so short, then again any more of that and I would have won the dunces hat!! Laughing

It is a tough one in that if you don't just "get" a certain category, it can be very hard to answer all of them in that section.

The length is determined by an optimal "recreational" period that the BBC feels is suitable for such things, I believe.

I don't need to do a test - I know I'm great.

This test isn't really about being great, passing or failing but instead a chance to consider the 11+ via a sampler of what it was it was like.

As a kid I was trained for it by being taught the kind of things that it would throw at me. I did this while I had chicken-pox and so was off school too.

In the same vein if you ever find out that you'll have to take an IQ test get yourself an IQ testing book from the library or bookshop to brush up on the principles that the test will be based on. They're not bad puzzles, those tests, can be fun to do.

Think instead, 'My brain works differently.Yippee!' Laughing
The questions were confusing, probably devised by a committee to avoid ambiguity - when (bearing in mind the people taking it) maybe something simpler was needed. I had to read some of them two or three times to get what was needed. I know! I should have read them all before pressing the start button! Wink
But I passed. Yeah, I'm off...
I've never been to grammar school...
Will they make fun of my accent?
Or pick on me because I'm 64?
Will I have to wear a uniform?
I'm not wearing a tie!
Where's my satchel?
