I had a thought the other day that I wanted to begin trying to expand my vocabulary. However how fun is it to read the dictionary by yourself?! Yes indeed. So I decided to inflict my boredom upon my fellow posters.
I shall begin.
Spatchcock spach'kok, v or n (English, probably from dispatch and cock)
To insert into a text too hurriedly or inappropriately; a fowl stuffed and cooked immediately after killing.
As a verb, spatchcock is a term that should be picked up and used by every editor who has ever had to read a manuscript that has been prepared in such a manner.

Permambulator - n.one who perambulates;
a baby carriage;
an instrument for measuring road distances.
I should point out that my dictionary was published in 1914!
so for the young ones here, a baby carriage would be called a buggy, push chair, pram.........

Portmanteau: Two words made into one, usually taking out some original letters, such as "spatchcock".
Comes from the word portmanteau being a French word for a suitcase which has two compartments.
(spelling may possibly be wrong, cant be bothered to hunt for my dictionary!).
