To start with, just a quick paste from another thread.

it already exists on the main page but i think there's way too much info on the main page as it is. if we're already subscribers we dont need to see the welcome essay every time. we should be seeing lists or random pictures of online users or a site news section. last 10 groups created, new subscribers in a more prominent location etc

Yeah. I'd go along with that. I ignore the front page for that very reason & go to whatever part of the site I'm wanting to look at.

I'd modify that list of things to this, thohgh.

1. News items - although I'd only go with that if there if it was updated frequently enough.
2. Show the last x threads replied to or the the busiest x threads over the last 2 days.
3. A selection of the most recently approved pictures. Perhaps this could be filtered according to the members interests, ie. showing only men, only women, or both.

I think 3 Clearly defined areas, well laid out, would be more than enough. The only thing I'd add to that would be a click through advert to real-time chatting.

Shouldn't this go in the section about feedback and ideas ?

The rest of the posts already made about this are here, within another thread.

plentyoffish has some interesting features, but its design is a dogs breakfast....

looks terrible, and is far too basic

Yeah, I think so too. Both sites could do loads better on the user interface side of things. Good design is a hard thing to get right, though, and I'm certainly no expert.

I have had several concepts of webdesigners for a new design - however none was good enough to replace the current "design". If I replace the current design of Flirtbox only if it is really good. It is too much work and costs too much money to replace it with a design that just looks a bit different or only "slightly" better.

If I replace it, it must be really good. There are too many webdesigners out there that think they are the best and most creative designers on the planet, but in the end just deliver something a random 12 year old could have done at home.

Almost all designers just look at other websites and copy them and change the colours......or are good designers but have no technical background and do everything in flash....or use too many graphics....

Good webdesigners are rare and want to have several thousand pounds or Euros for a webdesign at least.....and that's not worth it.
