Not sure why, but today the site has shrunk to just over half the browser, which means I cant always see everything. This is in both firefox and ie. It used to stretch across the whole of my browsers.

Any ideas?

I dont like this new forum layout, it looks all scrunched up. Maybe it would look better centralized? There is a huge empty gap on the right hand side now but that might be because my adblock plus is blocking something?

Yeh, but I noticed that it still shows full width in Google Chrome though <<<< EDIT: well, it was, it's not now.

The forum CSS (style sheet) specifies 996 pixel fixed width - I'm sure it used to be 100% fluid width. Anyway, it seems to be left-aligned by default, which is what usually happens when no alignment is defined in the style sheet.

If there is something you can not see, please mention which part on which page and it will be fixed.

The reason it has "shrunk" is that:

1. the website is more usable this way, especially on large screens - your eye does not have to move so much

2. it looked strange on big screens anyone

3. most people have the browser not in fullscreen mode, they always resize the window and have other windows open at the same time anyway (e.g. messengers, zattoo, mp3 players..other software)

I agree with these reasons; rather controversially (amongst my work-peers, I mean) I still design websites at fixed width, sometimes even narrower than 800 pixels still, based on general/average user-trends. I must damit that I think the forum looks tidier the way it is, on my larger monitors (19" and 23"), but is too wide for my laptop monitor. Perhaps it would look even more presentable if it was centred on the screen?

Preferred it how it was.

Everybody I've seen on their pc has used their browser full screen.

The main forum looks fine, but the UK and Irish forums "posts since last visit" and presumably any other search just look a complete unreadable mess now.

To be honest it is better for me like this, from where I sit at my machine. I lounge on the left hand side of the monitor, so I can glance across and watch the TV. Smile

The threads with the big pics are suffering, maybe they need a scroll bar installed or something?
Examples:

http://www.flirtbox.net/anything_else/post-you-re-pussy-pics-here.html

I suspect this is probably the same width as the original discussion board?

Thanks for the feedback...I am always trying to take everything into account. I know there are still some messy parts of the website but every weekend I am trying to improve it, step by step!

I am also thinking about centering the website.....

All big websites I know are also fixed-width and left-aligned...or center-aligned. I am still unsure.....

The HTML on flirtbox.net is also broken....the div class with the ID main is there twice
