I don't know if I'm the only one but I have quite a bit of trouble with the login on the forums here.

It all seems to centre on the phpbb2mysql_sid cookie.

If I log in, then close all browser windows and come back, it refuses to let me log in again until I delete the above cookie. The same happens if I log in with autologin checked. I will be asked to log in again and not be able to get in.

I had this problem with Firefox 1.5, have recently upgraded to v2 and the problem is still there. I use a couple of other boards which are built around phpbb2 and don't have the same problem.

The cookie is set to expire at the end of session, so my best guess of where to start would be looking to see if phpbb is attempting to restore the session with the previous session id which has obviously expired..could be way off the mark though!

I do have problems fairly frequently...sometimes when I'm logged in, the logging comes up again but I cant log in or post until I shut the browser down. I'll check out that cookie next time.

Try not to use the auto-login.....logging out is better anyway.
Maybe your browser doesnt remove expired cookies?

Well in my first post I said I had the problem and using auto login made no difference - so I thought that made it clear that the problem didn't centre around auto login.

I've just had a bit of a closer look. It would appear that the site is setting identical cookies for the www.flirtbox.net domain and the flirtbox.net domain.

When I come back, the www.flirtbox.net cookie is gone and I have to remove the flirtbox.net cookie.

Right, info on the cookies being set:

These four are the only ones that persist between the browser being closed and reopened. The phpbb2mysql_sid does not reappear until I revisit the website (along with per session __utmc). The last one appears twice with identical data under www.flirtbox.net and flirtbox.net

__utmz
__utma
__utmb
phpbb2mysql_data

If the problem appears to be fixable by removing the phpbb2mysql_sid cookie that is generated upon revisiting the website, I would imagine that there is a bug somewhere that is causing that cookie to be generated incorrectly though I have no idea why it gets generated correctly after removing the first dodgy one..

I guess that this is also my problem?

I've told Firefox to only allow cookies to be set for flirtbox.net and www.flirtbox.net for the session so all of them are zapped and login now works first time.

It really is a bit of a pain though because I get the new mail notifications on threads and view them, but of course it doesn't know to re-enable to mail notifications and tell me about any more new posts. Having to re-login all the time really does get annoying and actually means I come on less often so that I only have to log in once to check a batch load.

Thanks for the feedback!

I changed the cookie name to flirtbox now - so every needs to enter his/her password again - for those out there who never logout.

The problem was that it was set to .flirtbox.net when you login and all other cookies where dependent on the URL (e.. flirtbox.net, www.flirtbox.net, foros.flirtbox.net, foren.flirtbox.et). Now they all have the cookie domain" .flirtbox.net" and are called "flirtbox"

Seems to be working now after I remembered that I'd set it to wipe them after each session Smile

I think we're all in the same boat, that's why I switched to firefox in the first place & because of the IE crashing problem.

I really think the DB should be backed up & then the forum reinstalled.
