hi, I would like to know how I can blocked a member

When the person you wanna block sends you a message there should be these two small pictures next to their name, one with a heart and one with a cross. and you gotta click on the one with the red cross on it Hope that makes sense!

Can anyone tell me something about blocking members please?

About a week ago I blocked a couple of people because one was being abusive and the other wouldn't take no for an answer.
Now today my 'blocked members' list is empty??
Why is that?
Does it automatically get emptied after a certain time?
I would prefer it if a blocked person stayed blocked, now if that person writes me again I might not recognise their id.
