Just popping my head in. I've seen the organisation of a few events - I'm part of a web forum for people who like the classic mini and we had the club's third birthday bash in the Lake District recently.

Things that generally get numbers up for meetings:

Easy to get to
Cheap
Some unique events
Alternatives for people to do if they can't handle being around strange folk for an entire weekend or similar

Hotels are one option, youth hostel type things are another option - we took over an old army training house in Keswick which took 56 people and it only cost £30 for the whole weekend. Club admin arranged music for the hall, some party decorations and some games. We had some unique awards for people that know each other, people brought various treats from their regions. Saturday daytime involved a drive out round the hills in fancy dress (pirates) and a mass pie eating for lunch at a pub (pre-arranged so the pub was ready).

Don't know if any of that helps you though..

Sounds excellent Beddo You volunteering to organise it all then? Wink

By eck, the lake district is blinkin lovley!
Its a lovely drive as well, rolling hills, green grass (compared to blue grass? idiot!) Fresh unpolluted air, and like beddo wrote there are plenty of things to do and also there are plenty of hostels to stay in, when i was a lot younger i went to the lakes 1 a year!

If everyone is driving (or people are willing to collect those not), the Lakes is fairly easy to get to. It is also quite central taking the whole country into account (England, Wales and Scotland).

Keswick is a straight road off the motorway and this is the place that we stayed at. You can book the whole place or by the room. You've got the town of Keswick, Derwent Water, Thirlmere is a short drive as is the lovely Gingerbread shop in Grasmere Smile

My favorite area of the Lakes (Langdales) isn't too far either. I prefer this bit of the Lakes to the southern lakes like Windermere because they don't get so over-run with tourists! Not like that would be a problem in winter..

As to organising, at the moment I can't see the previous posts at the moment (links to different pages are throwing up a 404) so I don't know what was agreed on.

If you want some help, fine. We need to know:

1) Who is going (must be willing to pay up front as noone should have to risk their own cash for booking the venue)
2) When
3) How many days
4) What kind of things people want to do

I've not been around flirtbox that long really so I don't know how things work - it could be quite useful to have the backing of the site organisers to make it official and get numbers up.

Another tack completely is to look up some kind of event somewhere and work into that. Many of the things Minifinity does are based around a weekend event or show - though I can't say I can think of any particular type of event that would be suitable.

One thing that you always, without fail find is that far more people will sign up and say they will come than actually turn up..

I went to a rangers v. celtic game a couple of seasons ago..it scared me. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be though.

And I was talking about the players, not the fans
