28.03.2007, 21:36 quote
Hi, Anyone else like Anime, if so what titles? For me, nothing can beat Cowboy Bebop- Full Metal Alchemist was close though.
28.03.2007, 21:39 quote
I prefer things like full metal panic fumoffu to alchemist, but im a massive anime fan
To the point where i'm slowly learning to speak japanese, tho its going to be handy for work too
GTO has to be one of the best manga's going, and the anime keeps up pretty well with it, and fooly cooly is wicked when you want something insane to watch
29.03.2007, 22:35 quote
i love anime but just got into it during the last year so not seen as much as i would like to. So far i love Grave of the Fireflies & Spirited Away.
going to start buying some more of them

Studio Ghibli stuff is really good, I recommend perfect blue if you like psychological thrillers, and if you even remotely like vampire stuff check out Hellsing, def one of my fav animes
30.03.2007, 03:03 quote
Oh yeah, I love the Studio Ghibli stuff, I've got pretty much all of them. I really like Hayao Miyazaki's style, anything of his is worth a watch. Grave of the Fireflies was a favourite of mine for a while but it's quite depressing lol. I have a ton of GTO mangas, (well up to 20) I prefer it to the anime, but one thing I don't like is all the advertising embedded in it or whatever- a frogman watch, mcdonalds? Feel like I'm being brainwashed.
Anyway lol, I also want to learn Japanese, I've picked up a few words from just watching anime over the years but it'd be great to watch without subs (or dubs).
I agree Hellsing is good, have you seen the new OVA's yet? Melissa- you should check out Porco Rosso if you liked Spirited Away, it's another masterpiece!
30.03.2007, 12:42 quote
I preferred howls moving castle to Porco Rosso, but only because Calcifer rocks
Kiki's Delivery Service was fairly good in a cute kinda way.
The advertising in someways works - makes it a tad more realistic to my mind, but I reckon thats personal taste - I cant stand McDonalds, so no amount of advertising is gonna make me want to go there
Samurai X is a brilliant set of Ova's if you like mediveal japanese stuff, I wasn't so much a fan of the series, but thats only because Kenshins continual "That I am's" really really go on my nerves
30.03.2007, 12:57 quote
Cool, I'll have to check out Samurai X OVA. I watched some of the series and wasn't too fussed by it- ain't too keen on the over-the-top comedy stuff (FLCL is good though). I think it was that anyway...
One thing that annoys me in anime is all the squeaky female voice acting, all sounds the same
Do you know of any really good lesser-known anime, that I need to check out?
30.03.2007, 13:13 quote
It really depends on the style of anime your into, Appleseed, Akira, Monster City and Venus Wars are all brilliant in their own style, but they wouldnt really appeal if your a fan of things like real bout high school.
His and her Circumstances are good if your into rom com's, as is Love Hina, obviously evangelion needs no mention
Umm, what else, 3x3 Eyes is brilliant, as is Legend of the 4 kings.
The guyver is brilliant too - I defy anyone to watch it and not secretly wish they could yell out "Guyver!" at points and have their own bio booster armour
Umm, Ninja Scroll is pretty funky for a gore fest, as is MD Geist, and slayers if you fancy a laugh.
There are more good anime series/ovas out there than there are RL shows, so its a case of what your into really
31.03.2007, 17:07 quote
I've also seen Howl's Moving Castle, it's also a good one. Thanks for the other recommendations I'll need to check them out.
I also like martial art style movies like Hero and Japenese psychological thrillers like The Eye, much better than the american equivalents
01.04.2007, 08:07 quote
i like naruto & bleach.
seen all of chobits, hand maid may, full metal alchemist, Maburah, midori days, onegai twins, samurai champloo. samurai deeper kyo, scrapped princess, hellsing , witch hunter robin, ah my goddess!
movies: seen most of miyazaki, appleseed, ghost in the shell 1 & 2, ninja scroll, akira, jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, ninja scroll, animatrix & 3 volumes of urotsukidoji on vhs.
01.04.2007, 09:24 quote
I guess I'm into more the kinda dramatic stuff than the Rom-com and all the OTT stuff. Don't get me wrong I like a bit of variety. I hear you about Ninja Scroll, that's probably the one that started it all for me lol. Champloo is great too, just a shame about the ending, not on the same level as Bebop.
Heard a lot about all the shonen jump style animes like Naruto & Bleach, a friend keeps raving about them. Might get the mangas or something. One Piece is good too, always got time for Pirates
I'll definitely check out MD Geist and Slayers, thanks!
||The Japanese/koreans always seem to be better at tension-horror than anyone else, plus the Chinese for Martial Art films. Man, I love Jackie Chan films
Nothing quite like a JC film and a bowl of noodles!
01.04.2007, 09:53 quote
i preferred deeper kyo to champloo tbh.
i like the asian style horror too. but remaking stuff like the ring, dark water & the grudge is just plain wrong.
my fav asian horror is a korean one called tale of two sisters. i got Rinne download directed by the grudge guy, supposed to be superb.
there's some neat martial arts movies if u know where to look, browsing the japanese version of the quicktime trailer site is good.
some notables are shinobi, shadowless sword, cashern, so close, the returner, arahan, azumi, shaolin soccer, the promise. on top of that i like the older jet li movies like once upon a time in china, fong sai yuk, shaolin temple etc
01.04.2007, 10:48 quote
On the wsubject of asian horror, back in the 1960s and 70s Japan made some pretty appalling sci fi horror films usually of gaint monsters attacking Tokyo.
05.04.2007, 22:00 quote
Well, yeah I guess. I've only really seen one of the Godzilla movies, I know there are a million of them. It still has character, even if it is appalling lol. I think the worst Sci-fi horror (?) I've seen is Plan 9 from outer space, but I fell asleep through the last few scenes.
On the subject of martial arts movies, my brother recommends Dragon Tiger Gste or something, have you heard of it?
