old boy is good but thats in korean.

Old Boy's fantastic, very very twisted. How wrong is the ending!? Have you seen Lady Vengence? The director made three films focusing on revenge and retribution and it's the last in the trilogy, also very good.

yes, its amazing. The story line is one of those nice simple ones which give it excuses for an action packed film. Actions a little different tho.. Ong bak had more long fights 1 on 1 action, this has a lot of group fights (some 1 on 1 fights to but not so much emphasis) and a looot of bone breakers :p

101 Reykjavik....recommand it too anyone.
Most of it is in Icelandic, but parts are spoken in english, plus of course you can get the text up. You can buy it in the UK.

Good movie....check it out.

Also buy the same director, but good if you have never been to iceland is a little trip to heaven....famous american actors, with icelandic director, icelandic producers...in fact everyone icelandic, but set in the states....

Pan's Labyrinth isn't really mainstream. That and The Devil's Backbone are great!
The Jeunet and Caro films are great too...
Amelie, City of the Lost Children, but best of all, Delicatessen.
If there is one recent British film which stands out, while not being mainstream, it's Enduring Love. Daniel Craig, Samantha Morton and Rhys Ifans based on an Ian McEwan novel. Sadly, it sunk without a trace, despite being a brilliant film!

Pans L & Devils Backbone are great, have you seen his first film Chronos? I didn't enjoy it as much as the other 2 but it was ok. Love Amelie, I think it is the perfect film and I've got delicatessen at the house waiting to be watched.
Another great non-mainstream film is the pusher trilogy - 3 danish films about the copenhagen criminal underworld. It's very very bleak, grim and disturbing and is shot in almost a fly on the wall style. Very powerful and shocking stuff but definetly worth a watch if you appreciate foreign and original films.

Chronos was good. Interesting spin on the vampire genre. A big move away from the homoerotic Anne Rice envisioning of our favourite fanged buddies.

OK, these Pusher films sound good. Copenhagen is a great city too, I should try them out!

Two more film-makers that need a mention:
Lars Von Trier: Dancer in the Dark, Breaking the Waves, The Idiots, Dogville are all great films!
Jan Svankmajer: check animator who made Alice, Faust, Little Otik, Conspirators of Pleasure to name a few - very dark and macabre!

Use to like Pete Greenaway films, but I think he lost his touch after a while.
