Hello, guys!
Nice list of sci-fi films you enumerated, and I want to add also several movies which impressed me much in different time, those are 12 Monkeys, Gattaca, I robot (although fans of Isaac Asimov novels would run me down with ughhhhs), Bicentennial man, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Strange Days (screenplay was written by my fav film's director - James Cameron)... Suppose its enough for a while, but i could continue... lol

The Martix....forget the other two, pretend like they didn't happen and its one of the best sci-fi's of all time.

I'd go with Bicentennial man since it stayed relatively close to the original story. Since I'm an Asimov fan, I'd have to give you an Ughhhh for I Robot. AI was just too slow for my liking.

Going to some of the oldies, Galaxy of Terror and the famous Forbidden Planet come to mind as well.

im sorry but you both got it wrong, Asimov was amazing in his creation of the 3 laws from which 90% of robotic sci fi has some basis, as for I Robot it was fantastic, the way it showed the evolution of an AI mind to realise how flawed the rules of humanity are. I found it to be one of the most novel reinvisurement of sci fi for a long time, something holiwood seams to have forgotten how to do

I'd have to disagree firdonthor, the book and the movie didn't match up. Asimov was stating the flaws as you described, the movie simply turned it into a computer malfunction. Asimov wrote the story to define an animatron becoming self aware with the benefits and pitfalls associated. He tried to bring an evolutionary aspect into the equation which asked the question "what if?". The movie tried in some respect to depict self awareness, they made it appear as though it was programmed in rather than 'discovered'.

"Short Circuit" was closer to the idea of the discovery of self awareness.

As a self confessed sci-fi nut I have to say that Bladerunner (Directors Cut) my all time favourite too many others to write down but in recent years District 9 was a very cool movie and I eagerly await the sequel.

Also looking forward to James Cameron's Avatar
