What's your favourite... you can only have one ?
At present, mine is still Enter the dragon.
I enjoy martial arts films, even though as soon as it's finished i find myself thinking about taking up martial arts classes and i'd like to know which of the many m/a films you folks 'recommend' and deem your ultimate favourite

Hmmm is it any wonder that I am posting here Stu?
Are you suprised?
My current favourite is Ong-Bak. Tony Jaa's graceful use of Muay Thai in this low budget film with no wires special effects or stunt men blew me away. It has been criticised for being poorly designed, but if you look at early Jackie Chan/Bruce Lee films the quality of those was appalling.
I have to say Bruce Lee is extremely important as far as modern martial arts films go. Historically (at least cinematically) Chinese martial arts films were full of graceful wushu. Internationally Chinese people were portrayed as soft and compliant. Bruce Lee with his rock hard body and wooden acting changed the face of chinese masculinity, and the martial arts movie!
Enter the dragon is obviously a good film. fist of fury is as well
I also love a film called Spirit of the Sword. It's not particularly good, but I loved it.
Still have to recommend any films showing Muay Thai as it is an incredibly beautiful m/a which those who aren't particularly interested in martial arts will be able to see the beauty in,
I'm a shotokan girl myself x

if you are into TV series - i'd reccomend Kung Fu starring David Carradine (sp) - he's the guy who played bill in kill bill

A classic 'martial arts' movie has to be Seven Samurai
My main preference (other than classic martial arts movies) are the more modern 'arty' ones, like House of Flying Daggers & Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - they do sometimes verge on the ridiculous, almost slapstick, but I suppose that's part of the appeal - well, along with the stunning landscape cinematography and superb choreography.

Seven Samurai dealt more with the philosophy of the code of samurai.
Wasnt a martial art's flick in the truest sense of the phrase. Regardless, it's one of those movies you must experience.
Once upon a time in china - any parts you can find. they're pretty cool.

Quite true. I did mean to put martial arts into quote marks. I have it filed with all my old Chinese and Japanese 'martial arts' films anyway
