I watch a lot of crap horror films (my fault, I know – I just add everything from the genre to my Lovefilm rental list), but even with some of the worst you get the odd bit that makes you jump or a decent bit of gore.

But I watched The Messengers the other day and I have to say that it was probably the least/worst (whatever) modern horror film I’ve ever seen.

I was wondering if there was actually anything else out there less scary that whatever it was supposed to be about?

I can't say I have seen a good one for a very long time. Quite honestly, film storylines are becoming far too predictable lately. The minute you see a group of people, you can easily work out who's going to buy it and who will survive. Within a few seconds after hearing everyone in the group talk, you can already work out who is going to say the immortal words; "This isn't funny guys."

Even 'The Ring' for me was let down by second rate effects. Great idea but needed a far better budget.

Saw was good Tryst, the story line was all jumbled and each film clears some of the last film up.. its brilliant.

Though i love ghost films, im shit scared of ghosts but it intrigues me..and theres not been a good ghost film out in ages. Haunting in conneticut was a huge let down

Japanese or American? I've never seen the American one, but I loved the Japanese one.

I've seen both and neither are that great as far as effects etc are concerned.

Don't get me wrong, the story itself was good and a cool and fairly original idea. It was just let down by a meagre budget.

I've known some of the old 70's Hammer House of Horror episodes that have been more scary than some of the films shown now.

A lot of classic British Horror can be extremely freaky, I love Hammer horror, even though some of it is a little dated now, it's still quite brilliant.
I didn't take any notice of the Rings special effects, but things like that don't bother me too much, which is probably the reason I liked it so much.

I hate most Hollywood horrors really, it's rare that they make a good one, and most of the time when they do it's because some other country made it first.

The mist was shit, i payed for it on the box office and should have learned that everything that i pay for on that and is a supposed horror turns out to be a waste of money! I actually liked A haunting in Connecticut actually i love them type of films and The exoticism of emily rose scared the shit out of me! The strangers was a huge disappointment, really didnt live up to the hype! Drag me to hell was crap to and the acting was even worse! The remakes of omen and halloween typically never lived up to the originals!

What ive never got was why America never did the ring 3, cos in Japan its a trilogy...

Saw is one of my favourite films and loved the the first three films but they should have left it to them three, yes the next three explained a bit more from the other films but i know i could have lived without the other three!

Jason x is about the worst film i have seen full stop! Not in the least scary and the storyline and acting are even worse.

You sit though the whole thing thinking ' can this actually get any worse' and it does.

Oh and that haunted mansion with eddie murphy, that wasn't very scary either. Laughing

I actually liked that film... I'm very sceptical about such things but i did live in house when i was young, where some very odd things happened along the same lines as the film... (noises and the like).
Anyone i know that thought their house was haunted has identified with the film.

I do think horror films are the hardest to get right though... it's kinda all been done.
