The last film I saw at the cinema was the new Chainsaw Massacre, which was abysmal. Literally, the worst thing i've ever seen. It was plenty gorey though, so i'm sure it appeals to someone - but it just wasn't scary. Oddly enough, it was actually more dull than anything..

Just finished watching doom....

Its a resident evil style movie, wannabe horror with violent overtones, the script gets needlessly heavy on details and the frantic pace of action can't support the dialogues heavy reasoning or script sometimes.

Mind you when i bought it i expected total crap. When i watched it with that expectation i was pleasantly suprised to find that it was just average rather than total crap. I don't know the game terribly well but i got the impression from the film that it was very very very loyal to the genre and the storyline behind the games and as a cinema viewer i appreciated that.

There was a 5 and a half minute first person shooter (just like the computer game) sequence where you experienced the action through the characters eyes, and the director made the brave decision of going against realism and naturalism (which was everything up to that point) and brought in the fluid, marionette puppetlike, repetitive, strange physics that you experience in a computer game and allowed the audience to experience the film that way. It was a moment of loyalty to the game and the genre that went against the narrative, but you couldn't help but respect because it allowed the viewer to experience what the whole thing was supposed to be about first hand. It was like the Gatekeeper in MacBeth. It gave you a welcome break from the narrative in the film to recharge and experience something anew, before taking you back to the film.

On that 5 and a half sequence alone i respect the film so much.
