Ok so I've been a bit of an eejit scaring the living snot out of myself watching The Descent - I'm a complete and utter WUSS when it comes to scary films, but just every now and then I'll put myself through it - I s'pose it's for the adrenalin rush, maybe.....

Anyway, the purpose of this topic and what's really annoying me, is what the heck's going on with the ending??? I hate ambiguous endings - did she get out of there or not? About 1 minute before the end you think she's home and dry, then you're left wondering grrrrrr

If there's anyone out there of a much more superior scary-film intellect than me, please enlighten me as to the correct interpretation of that PATHETIC ending - it's bad enough that I'm going to sleep with my head under the covers when I finally go to bed - I did say I was a wuss - but to have that niggling at me, well it's just too much to ask.....

All contributions most gratefully received

I don't think she got out, I think she was hallucinating and a bit mad at the end, and imagined getting out. Then you know what happened. Nasty film that.. quite disturbing.

Thanks for that Moose - I'd kind of thought that must be the proper explanation but I'm such a soppy git I just wanted to believe that at least one of them had got out!

It was a disturbing film - it is a puzzle to me why sometimes it's just great to give yourself a good old jumpy scare. I have to watch stuff, when in that mood, that provides scares in a context that I'll never find meself in - as in potholing or down in a revoltingly deep cave. It's why I like the Alien films, apart from most of them being damn good films - I'm never likely to find an Alien creeping out of my wardrobe at 3am to come get me, am I.

Am I??? eek

For me..and i love my horror! It was a perfect ending. Not everything has a happy ending, but at the same time what i got out of it was that she, in her last moments was with her daughter, and wasnt bothered about the creatures in the dark!? On another point I think Neil Marshall is one of the best horror directors around, the other one being Alexandre aja (Switch blade romance)
