Home >> Films & Movies >> Hollywood does Scotland
21.11.2008, 02:54 quote
You know the films, the ones where they set it in Scotland but was probably filmed in the US. The actors have the worst Scottish accents that sound more Irish than anything. They are full of Scottish sterotypes. And the hero is probably American. Yet you still want to watch them because they are bad enough to be funny.
So what film like this have you seen about Scotland have you seen and laughed at because it is nothing like Scotland?
Mine would have to be "evil beneath loch ness" it has everything I have listed above, but had me rolling on the floor as it was just so funny.

Braveheart!
One of my friends is a historian and has an interest in the period when Braveheart is set. He loathes the film because it is painfully inaccurate.
Even the central romance can make you shudder, because the female character would actually have been a child at the time of the events.
Here is a short summary of some of the gaffs:

Very stirring film but I'm another one who can't stand it for its historical inaccuracy.
Can't think of that many other Hollywood films set in Scotland though apart from Rob Roy which wasn't too bad. Both were filmed in Ireland though.
