I have written to postpals using their email facility on their website several times and had no reply. There doesn't seem to be any other way of contacting them.

Despite what they say, cmt *never* causes the possibility of blindness or deafness, it seems to me that some of the parents perhaps make things sound worse than they are for sympathy? I am not of course saying things are not bad enough when you have a sick/disabled child but even so.....

I have written to them suggesting that they 'edit' what parents say because quite frankly reading a load of nonsense (including cherubism causing teeth to grow roots first!) does nothing to inspire me to send anything, be it good wishes, gifts or whatever.

I am a moderator on another kind of website and a member posted a request (with her email being postpals@ so presumably she is an official for the site?) asking for donations/gifts from other members which is why I looked into it when I noticed some discrepancies.

I am not saying that postpals as an organisation are crooks/scammers, but they should 'vet' the kids before putting their 'stories' on their websites if they want to maintain any credibility.

And answer emails from enquirers....

Ok, please feel free to lock/delete/whatever this thread, if I dont get any joy from postpals within the next week I will contact watchdog and see if they can look into it for me.

Thank you.

As 'god' himself has locked a previous thread about this site Clemepol, I am going to lock this one too. If people wish to make comment on this to you personally then they are free to do so within the PM facitlity.

Hello, there is a message on Flirtbox board "Fakers, Spammers and Scanners" regarding an organisation we run and in particular about one girl.
http://www.flirtbox.net/fakers_spammers_and_scammers/postpals-com.html

We are a non profit organisation set up with a grant from the Princes Trust and have since been supported by Children in Need. We feature children (known as Pals) with a serious illness on our website www.postpals.co.uk and invite members of the public to log on and send an email, card, letter or small gift to brighten the child's day. Various people from around the world have done so, and Post Pals is used in some schools in the UK, Japan and Spain.

The post in question states we are asking for money to be sent to the children, this is not true at all. We state on our FAQ under "What should I send"

"We should also note Post Pals has been plagued for requests for money and donations. Post Pals does not support nor endorse the sending of money in any form to Pals, Pals parents or Volunteers, to cover trips, treatment or any other issue or item that may arise."

Aside that, I am concerned that the child in questions parent comes across this post. Every child who joins Post Pals has to provide a medical letter with their name, date of birth and diagnosis on. They submitted proof written by a consultant, which contained her name, diagnosis, DOB, GP name and details of her treatment. Symptoms vary from person to person with any illness or disability and we make it clear that the "story" is written by parents with details of their childs illness and how it effects them. We state on the "About illness" page that CMT is a form of Muscular Dystrophy as the Muscular Dystrophy Association covers CMT along with 40 other types of MD. She is not currently going blind or deaf but her parents were told when she was younger it was a possibility which was a low moment for them and mentioned when talking about their high and low's.

No volunteers are allowed to ask for donations, we have on a few occasions in the past been contacted by businesses who people claiming to be volunteers or a featured child has contacted, how ever this is nothing to do with Post Pals and a lot of other charities and organisations suffer from this problem and which we feel we have dealt with efficiency. We have in the past asked companies to donate items, but always do so from a @postpals.co.uk and on headed stationary, including a phone number to confirm details..

The lady who wrote the post said she was sending an email to us, we haven't received anything but if anyone has a concern please contact us directly on info AT postpals.co.uk and we can answer any questions.

[...]

We would be grateful if you could get back to us please and let us know that you have received this email and that the issue has been dealt with.

Best Wishes

Vikki George (Founder)

I hope this answers everything. I think the best thing would be to not delete this thread in order to inform other people who might receive those fake emails as well......[/quote]
