from an article on the register news site

Here's some good news for the gym monsters among you: women are "predisposed to prefer muscularity in men", according to researchers at UCLA. The team's report, published in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, suggests "muscles in men are akin to elaborate tail feathers in male peacocks" which "attract females looking for a virile mate", as Reuters puts it. |
but dont worry if you're not built that way:

they will tend to opt for a "regular man" when it comes to long-term relationships. |
10.07.2007, 16:42 quote
Sorry, in a nutshell, that article is bullshit (as is the study). It isn't representative of a cross section of people by any means, it is based on the alleged sexual exploits of 99 male undergraduates and 141 college women, all roughly the same age and all students.

I think Michael Madsen has a gorgeous bod (not to start on his cool face again)
Is he well built or well fluffy?
Did I just say that? Didn't mean to interrupt.

Oi, haven't you got some pool hall to hustle today? Madsen indeed..... Oh, actually, what do you think of his deep sexy voice?
10.07.2007, 18:17 quote
oh that's one of the best things about him.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. Everyone should hear him say: "Merry Christmas!" LOL Now why do ya wanna get me started on that one?
10.07.2007, 18:20 quote
Oh good, so I have a chance with the younger ladies yet. I was beginning to think that the deep voice thing was more attractive to older ladies.

That's the bit that makes my day.
It's funny because the wording is ridiculous and is so like your typical the media.
There is no law that says "you must be attracted to this!". Meaning that not every woman will like skinny, muscular or fat. They are all individual like men (shocker isn't it
The article is bull, and you should never take what the media say as gospel.
10.07.2007, 20:10 quote
there's no getting away from the fact that if you ask a bunch of people a question, trends emerge. such is the wisdom of crowds.
whilst this study might only be the wisdom of undergraduates, ask a different age range and you'll either get the same or a different trend but a trend there will be. dating sites are a great place to observe the wisdom of crowds cos everyone is acting alone but we still all grouped together. Any ranking of popularity is an observable trend. One could surmise that the further away you feel you are from the apparently popular the harder it will be to find the ones best suited to you.

As administrator on the top male model fashion site on the Web I have noticed that the long haired variety of the species are becoming less accepted than previously... they are often portrayed as the bad guys in the movies.. linked with the culturally disapproved. For me however...its not just bodies that equal peacock feathers... it is much more about hair... and I guess that makes you an Alpha Male then Browolf...

Surely different people are attracted to different things.
Some people like short, some skinny, tall, big, asian, goth, etc etc etc.
There is no general profile to fit.
People have their own preferences as to what they like and I don't think people follow trends. I think we are predisposed to be attracted to certain traits, and those traits vary from person to person.

This man knows what he is talking about.. it is the contrasexual archetype and it is unique to each of us.. if someone evokes that image that you carry inside there will be instant and powerful attraction.

If women do prefer well built blokes then my love life is doomed!
Im right little shrimp me, with a little bit of a belly forming...
Although not all women think that way, the article is right - generally women do prefer tall, well built blokes rather than us midgets.
16.09.2007, 19:21 quote
Thing is... People who actually say they regularly "preffer" well built bodies are mostly after a shag at that point in their lifes. That's what I'm thinkin.
As for love, that's a whole different thing. You don't wanna know!
As they say it, it's feckin blind. I for one spent a really long time (more than a year) fantasising about some guy who wasn't my type, wasn't too cute, "wasn't" much of anything in 95% of the important fields (really).
And I didn't evenhave a shot at him, because, of course, he "wasn't" into me that much either.
Go figure.
