But no one's exactly explained why they think people hate them. If it's just 'cos some people ignore your messages then so what.

People are right when they say smile. Being a miserable bastard is only going to halve your chances of scoring. You've got to enjoy life yourself, then people will see you and think "I could be laughing and joking like that with them" (or something to that affect).
