There are not that many people using internet dating it just seems like there are. At anyone time there are only about something like 80,000 people registered with internet dating sites across the whole of the UK out of a population of 6O million. Internet dating sites lie about the number of members they have got because they include lapsed members. So they claim they have got hundreds of thousands of members when in reality only a fraction of that number are currently active.

A few years ago most of those people who are now using internet dating sites were using newspaper personal adds and singles clubs. They were better really because you only got to meet local people. I can remember in the eighties almost everywhere had at least one singles club. And loads of places such as pubs used to put on singles nights. There was even a TV sitcom about a singles club in the late eighties called Dear John.
