Probably shouldn't pick such a strange question for my first post but here goes:
Would you date a women/man with the same name as your mum/dad?
01.08.2007, 16:38 quote
lol yes it is a slighty strange first post ......... would i date someone with same name as my Dad ............. well coming from an Irish family & Friends and my Dad's name being Patrick, i would have to say Patrick has popped up a couple of times, but never even thought about it, until just now .......... lol xx

I can just imagine the conversation, "yeah, I really like that name, it's the same as my mum's....', que long period of silence.

I dated a chap many moons ago with the same name as my dad. Must admit it never occurred to me that it might be a problem - I guess when you've got married and all and have kids named after the parents too it could get confusing who's talking to who....
But when I was 15 or so, I was soft on a chap whose surname was Chalice, and my first name being Alice, shallow bitch that I was back then, I refused to even go on a first date with him, no matter how gorgeous he was, cuz my dad's nickname for me when I was a baby was Alice Chalice and I shuddered at the thought of us getting married......
I don't think any name would put me off a bloke nowadays though....as an aside, my son's g/f thought his name was Humperdink for weeks til he fessed up it wasn't true, it didnt put her off going out with him in the first place!

Hmmm... I once dated a girl called "Jilly"... My mum's name is "Gill". Now that I think about it, that first introduction was kinda strange... But I got over it!

I just call my parents mum and dad, but my best mate has a boyfriend with the same name as my dad, Len, and I realised that some names I think of being age related and this guy was about 35 yrs younger than my dad, so I guess I might actually come across a guy with the same name. Don't think it will make any difference to me though, 'cos I can't imagine any man being anything remotely like my dad.
Alot of elderly women are names after flowers and months like: April, June, May, Rose, Lily, Daisy, Viotet..........
Made me think of my own name which is Susan by birth but I'm always called Sue, Susie Q or Suzy, unless someone is cross with me
then it is SUSAN!!!.........but I do think it's a name that primarily dates women to being of the 45-60 age range. Do you know younger Sues? not many I bet, or more likely to be Suzanne and Suzy
It is interesting how names are often chosen in 'drifts' from certain years due to popularity of the famous at the time of their birth e.g. royalty, sport and pop stars.
Then there are some names that are always popular in any generation...Steve, John, David, Michael, Emma, Paul, Jane, Victoria.....

My mums name is Ann-Marie (well, actually its Ann-Marie Ellen, as I just found out when I went to double check on my birth certificate) so from a Flirtbox point of view (more accurately, the forum) I'm pretty much limited to one person
Not that I'd complain, mind! Although I think Stephen might object. Don't meet many Ann-Maries for some reason. I d once see a woman with the same name as my dad - George, obviously hers was short for Georgina
