i had just got back from a night working at fat louis in skegness, my mate pete was standing there holding the door open for me as i had a few beers under my arm's, ' alright buddie, have you had a good night', 'not bad mate, just a couple of lads got out of control, so me and macca had to throw them out', i replied, ' come on in then buddie' pete said, 'the dvd's are ready, come and meet the missus'
now pete used to be the head doorman at fat louis but he gave it up to become a taxi driver ( you will often be able to find him sitting at either fantasy island or on skegness sea front, you cant miss him with his friendly smile and daft looking goatie, he is a gentle giant and he is 6'5'')
'thanks pete ', i said, anyway i walked in and met audrey , his missus, 'hello taz, come in ive heard a lot about you', 'nothing bad i hope', i replied, 'dont worry its all good things', she replied,
'taz have you managed to settle down yet' pete asked, 'no mate, im sick to death of trying to find the right one' i replied.
'well my next door neighbour is having some trouble with her boyfriend, if only she would get rid of him, she could end up with someone like you' ,audrey said,
anyway after a few beers and a couple of joints, ( yes i smoke weed )and watching a dvd, we all fell asleep, next morning i woke up to find the nextdoor neighbour leaning over me, whispering to her mate audrey, 'cor, he's a bit of alright, isn't he', ' well', said audrey,' if you got rid of your boyfriend then you could have someone like taz', ' i know, but its hard to get rid of a glue sniffer who threatens me all the time, im not allowed to do anythi.............', 'DONNA, WHERE THE F**K ARE YOU', he shouted from next door, 'oh ! dear !' donna said, ' id better get back before he starts again', so off she went, scurrying back to him like a frightened little mouse,
i then got up and pretended to stretch and be a bit startled,' who was that shouting', i asked audrey, 'that was donna's boyfriend, just as she said that, i heard this screaming noise coming from next door, i ran down audreys corridor and as i neared her front door i heard donna's door slam open, she flew around the corner into audrey's front door, i opened the door and pulled her in just as a fist flew passed her head, with that i ran outside and confronted her boyfriend, anyway to cut a long story short, i sorted him out, whilst this was going on they had rang the police, the police turned up and arrested him, it was then i found out that he had threatened her with a gun and he had attempted arson 3 times previously,
i moved in to look after her, we became friends at first, after about 14 months we started to see each other as more than friends, so we decided to marry, so we could change her little girls name to mine, then we moved away to start a new life, now all this happened nearly 8 years ago,
last year we decided to seperate because we grew stronger as friends, now im wondering is it all worth it, i know i helped her and her little girl, and i would do the same again to protect anyone, but i just feel that its time for me to find someone from a different position in life, then maybe then i will find my true love

Hey moose don't you think it is about time you put a quote at the bottom of your posts? (signature).........

Whether it was the right or wrong thing to do, it's happened. You can't change the past, but what you can do is accept it, learn from your experiences and concentrate on creating your future.
Shape your dreams and take the steps to make them real, maybe this is the first step.

It's not a bad thing to think of yourself sneed. You are noble for even trying to help in the first place as i know some that would not get involved. I know the saying that she sleeps in the bed that she made does not really apply here because she is not entirely helpless but she does choose to stay with him. I also know that some people that come from abusive relationships have a really hard time leaving them. They may fear what may happen to them if they do as the amount of control that is exercised over them can be great.
At the end of it all it is your responsibility to take care of yourself first and foremost and anything after that is secondary.

I agree with Myriad, for whatever reason you both decided the relationship had run its course and it was time to move on. When any relationship breaks down its never easy whether is amicable or not.
You should never have any regrets about the time you spent together, you obviously gave them both what they needed at the time which was probably stability and safety. Which makes you an absolute star.
Not sure what you're asking though when you say its time to find someone from a different position in life? You mean one thats not shacked up with a criminal or a psycho? Someone normal perhaps??

You mean was it right for you to split up right?
What you did to help her was a good kind hearted thing to do -- especially as she wasn't even a friend at that time. Now that you've been split up for a while are you having second thoughts? Is this just because you want the comfort of being with someone or do you really miss her for herself?
Don't forget that all this relationship and love stuff is only one aspect of your life, you've also got work, friends, family, activities and most importantly, looking after yourself.
