Perhaps you could change that to *some* women.......and I feel sad if that's the only kind you've met lately...... Crying or Very sad

Edited RC and sorry, you're quite right....was said a bit tongue in cheek Wink Although there is some truth behind it and causes me problems at the University.

To be honest, people thinking I'm a trouble maker has haunted me everywhere I go all my adult life. I've had bouncers in nightclubs coming up to me and asking me am I going to cause trouble??. That has happened a few times. Not sure who they think I am Confused

I chat to women and they ask me am I a bouncer, or a Rugby player?? They look amazed when I say I'm a mature student Maybe I should play on being a Rugger player, never played it in my life though Smile

I wouldn’t worry about the shit storm, there have been a few of them blow through these pages in the past 8 months, quite a few of them were mine

The truth is that many of the ‘friendships’ that come about through FB are just internet friendships, and don't have the potential to become real life frienships or relationships anyway (I said mnay of, not all - I know some do work). I think a lot of people forget that the majority of others using forums like this are just passing the time of day (or night ). They’re here one day, gone the next. I’ve met a few people through FB – some I keep in touch with, some I don’t. I know for a fact that some of those that I don’t keep in touch with think that I’m ignoring them – I’m not (not that I give a shit what they think anyway) ….. it’s just that when one has little in common with someone else, there’s little point in maintaining the ‘internet friendship’, especially if it’s a high maintenance one (constant emails & SMS’s). I spend most of my day sitting in front of a computer working, and find that I just can’t be arsed socialising through my computer as well (forums, emails, MSN, etc). I guess some might say that that is an absurd excuse too……

On the subject of making absurd excuses not to go out with someone - if someone just doesn’t ‘like’ someone else, then being ‘hot’, intelligent, attractive, etc, etc is irrelevant. Giving that person a reason for oit wanting to go out with them without hurting their feelings is pretty difficult, and they might often opt for giving a reason that seems absurd to the offended party, instead of telling the truth.

Me? I use the ‘too much time at my computer’ excuse all the time. a) it’s true and b) it’s better than telling someone I think they’re a bunny boiler (or whatever) Very Happy

In theory we are using it just to pass the time of day Stu, but in reality most of us take it a bit too serious at times. Not forgetting having little issues with people we maybe have never met [crushes]. I've had loads of women friends in real life over the last 30 years, but I've probably had more crushes on Internet persona's [one] then I've ever had in real life. Probably not as bad as real life crushes, but it still happens.

All seems odd to me.

Ah but isn't that because it's *safer* than the real thing?
But of course, when one takes it "too seriously" (as you put it) that;s when it gets a bit complicated and maybe painful when it all goes tits up?

It did go tits up, but it wasn't her that ruined it it was me. Probably for the best.

But it totally changed the way I view and use the net, and I am a lot less cynical about it now.

Well, since I'm being publicly attacked about a private matter...

Your inability to understand or persistent unwillingness to accept my reasons does not make them untrue or dishonest, and your lengthy, elaborate email accusations to this effect and weeks of public obsession and moping do not encourage me to respond. Instead they are offensive, and cast in a harsh light your own selfishness and specious pretense of intelligence.

Let me (once again) "say what [I] mean" using the simplest, most "straightforward" terms so there is no misunderstanding or further accusation of dishonesty. I have no interest in briefly meeting/playing around with/having a laugh with people who live in other countries. That is not why I'm here. There is too much temptation to do something I'll later regret while no potential for a tangible relationship. If you truly feel this is unfounded, unreasonable, "unacceptable" or dishonest, please take RocketGirl's advice and simply accept me as yet another jackass male who is the real cause of your loneliness, and be glad that you'll never have to suffer me in person.

To prevent future misunderstandings or apparent dishonesty, I have changed my profile description to clarify, explicitly, this preference.

I never called you a jackass male - I simply suggested musegirl forgive, forget and move on. I wasn't intending to get caught up in the middle of something private - I was just trying to be nice to a fellow member who was obviously upset.
Having read your response doctorfaust, hopefully musegirl will too - I have no further comments to make.

Ok thats enough of that! i'm locking this post

Not only has it gone wildly off topic but the airing of dirty laundry in public does no good for the boards....

What goes on in private messages should stay in private

Public attacks of any kind are not allowed and i'm rather surprised its gone on so long I would like to add that if a guy had 'attacked' a female 'like that' for turning him down on a date it would not of been accepted/tolerated at all!
