I have found time and time again that many people assume that if a person has a blatantly noticeable disability - be it using a wheelchair, blind, walks with a stick etc. - that person is automatically not going to be capable of 'keeping up' with them, dates will be boring or difficult.
I can't speak for all obviously, but I just thought that I would compile a list here of activities that I myself have done, or friends or others have done with and without using a wheelchair, with my able-bodied boyfriend and friends.

Abseiling - Yes! Sat in a wheelchair!
Sailing - using w/c
Deep sea fishing/lake/river fishing - using w/c
Swimming
Scuba diving
Hang gliding
Hot Air Ballooning
Rifle range shooting - in w/c
Archery - in w/c
Basketball - in w/c
Ping pong - in w/c
Ten pin bowling
Going to pubs/restaurants - in w/c
Cinema - w/c
Theatre - w/c
Zoos/sea world/museums/art galleries - w/c
Driving across America with a disabled-friendly campervan - w/c.
Theme park rides
Night clubs - you get the slow, smoochy dances!

The best bit about all of these is that the disabled person gets a cheap ticket and their companion - whoever that might be on the day, friend/partner/new date - usually either also gets a cheap ticket, or very often gets in free!

Wherever you go, if there are stairs the disabled person and all people with them get to use the lift, and if there's a long queue - particularly come to mind all theme parks and airports - you all get to go straight to the top of queue, no waiting.

I said this before in another thread, but a person using a mobility scooter can travel 20 miles at a rate of 12 mph, non-stop. That's a great day out! And they dont arrive home at the end of it knackered.

I am sure there are lots more, and no doubt there will be some people with certain 'disabilities' who would not be able to do certain things for certain reasons, but I also maintain that a hell of a lot of 'able-bodied' people out there who think people who use wheelchairs are a liability and would be a boring date and 'couldnt keep up with me' - I say, think again!
There are alot of 'able-bodied' people out there who are right couch potatoes and bore the arse off me, and there are of course disabled people exactly the same.
Unless you have to spoon-feed them and wipe their arse for them, I dont see it as a problem, the sex is going to be the same as with anyone else - either bloody good or bloody awful or somewhere inbetween!

Aw thanks BBones, I am actually in a relationship though!
Yay, you gave us another 'first date' idea - a Picnic!
Anyone can do that - I like the idea that this thread might steer away from concentrating on "disabilities" and rather concentrate of just giving each other ideas for things to do together, whoever we are, and whatever our perceived 'abilities'. Very Happy

I like doing a picnic for a first date, actually. I know some really nice places to go, and it's pleasant, relaxing, quiet and you can chat and get to know each other. Much better for a first date than something like a busy restaurant or the cinema. Not had much chance for them with the crap summer we've had though.

I'm going on a sort-of picnic (taking a flask of coffee and sarnies) on a canal boat trip near Godalming tomorrow, and apparently it's going to pour with rain all day! Evil or Very Mad

I'm quite near Godalming, there's some lovely canals and countryside around there. Shame the weather's gonna be shite!

As it happens, I like the odd picnic - combined with cloud watching and deep introspection, with a dash of philosophical contemplation. I'm shit at parties though Confused

Eda, you not seen 3 wheeler cycles for disabled athletes then? Wow, they cant half rocket along!
Some kind of lie back and pedal with their feet, some pedal with their arms. Amazing.

Edit: you just reminded me, years ago a friend of mine had one arm, he went everywhere on a bicycle....gave up the motorbike cuz he lost his arm going over the handlebars at a breakneck speed....he introduced himself to everyone as Phil O'Flip cuz he was Oirish! Laughing

On a first date i'd personally love to go Bowling or Go-karting.. it may seem immature but i'm definetly competitive and it's great!

Especially when you wanna nose at ur partners arse as they bend over to bowl...

Arse watching at the bowling alley? Terrific idea!

And how could I forget a nice romantic canal boat trip? Which I'm doing tomorrow in the pouring rain apparently... Confused

Some nice ideas RG...well done.

My stance is still the same on dating someone in a wheel chair, but you have given me some nice ideas for this weekend. Wink

Why restrict it to the bowling alley? I could watch arse anywhere....
