I'll tell you though, the day my laddo comes home from school and starts typing all shit, is the day I beat the living crap out of him for wasting my time over the years reading & writing with him!!

So please decode the first message for me then so I can read it - its taken me ages to figure it out - what does TTULBR mean please? Im guessing letter here - Take That United Love Big Robbie is the best I could get.

TExt speak is great when you have a limited number of letters, for example in a text message, but here you have loads of room to type and express your self as much as you want and as for being creative? Im not sure - removing about 20% of the alphabet (the vowels) surely removes the choice of words you can use hence limiting your creativity?
Just a thought.

I can read and write text (I have teenagers) but would prefer to keep the english language as literate as possible

Does he have a mobile GG? I think you'll find that when he does, he'll be using txt speak, it's just up to us parents to make sure it stays on the phone and doesn't creep into their everyday writing.

To me, shorthand is
"You're" instead of "You are"
Not
"Ur"
