Whats the point of it, if normal people can't understand a bloody word of it? Its not natural to miss out letters in a word. If the British Library goes down this road, I'm going to torch the place!

the point of it is, is that it is fun, a bit creative, not boring unless u use it ALL the time, it also saves space and can read it quicker...... lol it would shrink the dictionary any day!! lol:)

Doesnt it take time to learn though? I mean, really it's like learning a whole new language, missing bits out here and there. Ohhh I dunno, I couldnt handle that! I like proper English Smile I'll tell you though, the day my laddo comes home from school and starts typing all shit, is the day I beat the living crap out of him for wasting my time over the years reading & writing with him!! Smile

So please decode the first message for me then so I can read it - its taken me ages to figure it out - what does TTULBR mean please? Im guessing letter here - Take That United Love Big Robbie is the best I could get.

Ta.

TExt speak is great when you have a limited number of letters, for example in a text message, but here you have loads of room to type and express your self as much as you want and as for being creative? Im not sure - removing about 20% of the alphabet (the vowels) surely removes the choice of words you can use hence limiting your creativity?

Just a thought.

Oh, and Hello, nice tomeet you!

Text words wind me up where you have space to write properly

Hi Jeidy and welcome Just a gentle tip, capital letters are classed as shouting Smile

As for meeting others through dating sites, there's a few now in the forums of flirtbox alone and I met my fellah through another one.

I wouldn't go as far as calling you ill educated, but txt speak is generally for just that purpose.... texting. Some of us old fogeys don't take to reading txt in general messaging

I can read and write text (I have teenagers) but would prefer to keep the english language as literate as possible Very Happy

I think i'd rather mine wrote in textese than swore like a trooper Wink
Does he have a mobile GG? I think you'll find that when he does, he'll be using txt speak, it's just up to us parents to make sure it stays on the phone and doesn't creep into their everyday writing.

Well, I'm in college, and I can't translate most of it.

There's a difference between shorthand and just being plain lazy.

To me, shorthand is
"You're" instead of "You are"

Not
"Ur"
