for a date with someone you have been chatting with for a while ?

Been chatting for a while with a gorgeous young woman - and have the opportunity to meet -but she would have to travel 500 miles !

Cost, time, and a chance that we don't hit it off - what do you think ?

Anyone else been in a similar position ?

Genuine question lol

500 miles? It'd have to be the best date ever, it'd be impractical to expect them to travel that distance for a single date, it'd have to be for at least a weekend for it to be worth the trip.

I'd say no, most long distance relationships are strained. 500 miles is beyond long-distance.

It's unfair to expect them to have to travel that far too. I agree that there's a possibility you wouldn't hit it off in person.

It depends, if you've got money and time to waste and risk on the venture, go for it. For most of us, it's unrealistic.

Personally Id not travel more than 50 miles, if it did work out then Id at least want a distance that could be covered at those spontaneous moments when you have a night off from the kids etc Laughing

Well I'm meeting someone off flirtbox tomorrow and we're both travelling around 100 miles each so I'd say why not?
Of course there is the chance ppl may not hit it off or whatever but hey life is about taking chances and it will be an experience if nothing else.

thanks guys - your responses kinda sum up my dilemma Sad

she is willing to travel and take the risk, so fine - but I would feel awful if it does not work out - not even talking about it not ending in a serious relationship - but if we dont hit it off to have even a good time (dont necessarily mean just love!) then it will be difficult .....

other opinions welcome - may decide what we do !

cheers folks

If you've been getting on so far then I cant see that it will turn out really bad. The worst thing that could happen is maybe there is no real spark but you are both adults so there's nothing to stop you just enjoying a nice sociable evening together then leave it at that.
And dont feel bad if it doesn't work out, she is willing to travel and I'm sure she is probably a little anxious too but is obviously prepared to take the chance.

I don't quite understand though. Even if it goes well, she's 500 miles away. It's kinda hard for either of you to just uproot your life to move nearer to the other one?

Or is this supposed to just be a one-off thing?

I doubt they are looking that far ahead at the moment.

But that's the thing. Surely that'd be as far as this could go?

Why though? If they got on then there are flights to be had.
But my point is, why look ahead?
Why not just look at it as meeting up with someone you like and enjoying it for what it is? Carpe Dium Swiss !

True, he did just say a date.

I'd never travel 500 miles, but that's just because we have so many fine ladies locally
