I never thought of it this way...but this article http://www.zoobat.com/?p=67 is a very logical approach to why online dating is so popular these days.

Yeah i mean look at me,
it was only a few months ago i never even touched a computer.
But now i love it and it just seemed to make sense to me to join a site where
hopefully i can make some new freinds and if it goes firther than that then its fine by me.
I've met people in a lot stranger ways than on the intraweb i can tell ya!!
I just wish that when i was traveling i had got to grips with all this computer stuff, it would have made it so much easier to keep in touch with people!!
But im here now and im just gunna enjoy it Very Happy

The world has changed a lot.

When my grandparents were young, it was normal to marry when you are 18 or 19 or 20 and to stay married until the rest of your life.

Not all marriages were happy marriages - but they just stayed together - because it was the way it was.

When my mum was younger, single women with children had a really hard time....this is just one reason why at that time, people thought twice about getting divorced.

Now it is different - people get divorced a lot quicker and are single again.
Women don't have to be as courageous as 30 years ago to get divorced .

Additionally being single is more common now - especially in big towns.

It is both socially accepted more to be single and more and more people love their "freedom" - once they are unhappy with something, they often split up as it is the easiest thing to do.

Furthermore, people are more selective, also due to the "media". People have different images from their perfect partner - and many are looking for someone perfect that does not exist.

If you also keep in mind that MANY people are together with someone just in order not be alone, this would mean singles are sometimes more brave then people in relationships - because either they are courageous enough to split up or get divorced or because they can cope with their life on their own and do not need the security of a relationship - if it is not "real love".

If you know what I mean and are better at writing then I am, please contact me and you could write and article about that subject for me for the Flirtbox homepage.

I'm totally new to this and completely rubbish!
I can't attract anyone!
How do you do it?
I've met two girls through gumtree, but can never get anyone remotely interested on flirtbox.
Perhaps my genes just aren't suppose to carry!

I reckon online dating is better in some ways because you get a chance to judge a person by thier personality before their looks ^.^ It's a major good thing... =]

Don't see anything wrong with online dating, its just another way of meeting new people.

People seem all too happy meet people who are strangers at pubs, clubs and the like, yet online dating (where you can actually get to know about the person before you meet them) is deemed as 'for losers'... hmm...

People who knock online dating have probably never tried it and are too afraid to do so, there are probably just as many 'losers' in clubs and the like as there are online.

Im on here because I simply don't get too meet new/ interesting people that often - I live in a rough area, the people I work with or come across in my job are so different (different backgrounds, taste, etc...) that theres no chance I'll ever form a bond with anyone of them (relationship or friendship wise), Im not going to meet anyone going to football matches, playing pool in the pub, shopping or whatever else I do in my spare time and I absolute loathe clubbing, so going online gives me another way to find new people and hopefully find like minded people/ people I get on with well.

That doesn't make me a 'loser' at all, the whole 'online dating sites are nerdy' thing is just another case of people hitting out at something that, for them, is not of the norm.

Poorly written rant over, heh (and no doubt someone will pick up on the time of my post and go 'haha, loooooooser', ah the things I do when I can't sleep properly, sigh)
