I never had this problem when I first started dating again. My ex wife and I decided that was it, we were splitting, and I left. You have to remember I had been fairly depressed for quite a long time because of our relationship problems and had quite a low self-image at the time. So once I was on my own again my immediate thought was, "Right, you're better than all this crap, pull yourself together and get out there and meet women."

So that's what I did and for quite a long time I went a bit mental, pulling women and having loads of one night stands and basically shagging anything female with a pulse. Not exactly proud of it, I suppose it was therapuetic, I needed to prove to myself that I was still attractive to women after being made to feel crap and worthless for so long.

Then, of course, the novelty of doing that started to wear off and I started to miss having someone special to share things with.... and here I am now. My problem is not so much nerves at meeting new women, but problems meeting the RIGHT women.. I've never had any trouble "pulling." But meeting women in clubs and stuff is not really the right way to meet someone if you're looking for something more serious and long term, those relationships never seem to last.

Hence why I'm giving the internet a try...

LMAO. I tend to meet women in library's now. Love some of the new frames for glasses i can tell you that. They really accentuate the eyes so who needs make-up? Oh, and short skirts are nice too. I don't go into bars since i hardly drink. There is nothing there for me other than a bunch of cute drunk girls with some testosterone laden guys who like to wield pool cues. I have seen enough fights and i say no thank you. So i stick with places like the library and the regular street if i start talking with them for some god knows reason. I can't stop talking even in real life and i chat up most people, men and women, on the street.

So why not try the internet i said. It's been an interesting experience to say the least. I have ran into some nice people along the way, e.g. you crazy lot, and some not so nice people. But overall it has not been bad.

I am just nervous in general, annmarie?

Yes. I worry about the weirdest crap in life sometimes. I get nervous about riding my bike and anxious about getting a flat so me being a bit nervous is almost the norm and i deal with it. I am nervous about meeting somebody as this is going to happen soon i imagine. I have been talking with this girl for a few weeks now and things are happening. The communication is there and i am just glad that she is not here as this gives me a place to voice it. Not that i would mind if she did read this as she knows how i feel anyway. But things are progressing well.

I guess i will do what i have always done and that is to go some place with some grass to walk on while we talk and stop for an ice cream along the way. Then we can settle down on a park bench and watch the sun go down while the old couples walk by holding hands. With my luck we will go on a rice subtle bike ride as has been suggested already. Yes, i did manage to slip that one in but she seems receptive to the idea because she rides a bike herself. Now i just have to throw the dice and make the play so to speak. It will go either way so i will not worry about it too much ahead of time.

I am up early. It's 5 am.

There you go Bex. Only mentioned the B word once or twice Smile

I think nervousness is hard-wired into us as an instinct.
The easiest way to lessen the effect is to go on several dates.
I started dating about a year ago after a big break following a 5 year relationship. (Mind you, haven't been on a date for about six months!)
It was pretty hairy at first, but after a while, you start to adapt.
I think a good mindset on a date is to try and enjoy yourself, while tyring to gauge if it's easy to enjoy yourself in the company of your date. It's not a job interview, and it's not a reflection of flaws in your character if it doesn't work out. After all, someone who doesn't get you, or makes you feel uncomfortable is not the sort of person you want to spend time with. And you should also never be intimidated by a date's good looks! I wouldn't waste more than five minutes with a super-model if I thought she was dull.

I had a great time and the London hat turned out to be simply a black woollen hat that he'd bought in London. Wink
