I'm just interested to know if anyone has had genuine experience of meeting someone on the internet who didn't turn out to be who they said they were - either initially or actually upon meeting.

I'm curious because I think it must be a far less common occurance than the media would make one think - although there are a lot of fake profiles, these are usually just people after ONE THING and usually only digitally. I have no idea how those people get off, but whatever, I guess.

I've met a couple of boyfriends I've had online and a couple in REAL LIFE - infact, I'll let you in on a secret. When I was 15 (on faceparty) I put up a fake picture as the main cos I thought I was a dog and my very first 'meet' didn't even notice! I suppose because I'd put up other real ones too he probably knew and didn't want to say. Haha. Oh dear, confession. Needless to say I realised it's probably more hassle than it's worth.

Any flirtbox stories?

As mentioned in other threads, I met somebody who had put up a photograph of their relative, and not even being a blood relative they looked totally different.
I did still meet them a few times, but we lived opposite sides of the country.

I've met a few that I didn't recognise because their picture was a bit different.

I did mention to her women that WAS a friend that she didn't look like her pic, and she got the major hump Laughing ...although we are friends again now Smile

Not sure why people don't put up good face shots, so people can recognise them. Thats the idea of putting them up.

Luckily people have always recognised me...

..but then again maybe not so lucky

I met someone who turned out to be father Christmas. Although I did initially think it was a bad idea to meet in a department store at Christmas with only the description of her as wearing red and white but I went with it anyway and sat on her knee for a bit before getting chucked out by security Laughing

It's as easy as being demented for getting complimented.

I have met someone once but it turned out she was more of a 'guy' than I am and I found it kind of disturbing. A husky deep voice and very masculine features that weren't evident from the photo she sent me didn't really help either. She came across very pushy so it went no further.

I've not really had much luck with dating sites, but I'm one of those who can be quite happy staying single as well. Someone to cuddle would be a bonus but if it's not going to happen, so be it.
