Hi,

Fairly new member maybe still a newbie? and have been following the discussion forums, and this is certainly a friendly environment for chat and a good bunch of people on here. Some of the threads I've been following make me feel like I've known some of you a long time!

But I was wondering, how many people (not statiscally!) actually come on here looking for a date? Many members on the forum threads say they are here primarily for chat, friends, or both, and don't want a date or to reply to messages because of some of the creepy replies/offers they receive. Mostly this is regarding females replying to male advances/messages.

Personally I like the chat (else wouldn't be here) and would like to make more friends too. But I mainly came on here to meet people online, see if there were any members within reasonable distance and on the same wavelength, for a possible date.

At first I thought it was because my profile didn't say enough and there weren't enough pictures (so many profiles on here - guys AND girls - have no photo and there bare minimum of answers). So I put a lot of information on there and lots of pictures. Then I thought there was probably too much and stripped it back again! we need something to ask each other when we chat, don't we?

It's strange because quite a few of the female profiles say 'where are all the decent guys out there?' and say no pervs, web-cammers, only after a shag etc. Confused

So: do people find boyfriends/girlfriends on here?

I've had replies to about 1 in 4 messages which I think isn't too bad considering how cagey people are, and how many pervs there seem to be.

Have also had other messages that turn out to be scammers, 'fake' names that pretend to be interested women. Even as a newbie I sussed it early though, (decent) people wouldn't give all their details on the first reply, and when you check them out it directs you to a porn site. You go back to the profile and lo and behold, it's gone!

I've been single for long enough to not be looking for a rebound, not so long though that I'm desperate, I know what I'd like and am looking for (a date or 2 to see if I can meet someone I can click with...corny but true!) Crying or Very sad

Anyway whether I meet someone on here or not for a date, it's one of the best online meeting forums I've used, with lots of good chat.

I'd be interested to hear some of your experiences, both from longer term members and from the newbies!

Thanks for all the good subjects so far

Hi Michaelsonn
I can only speak for myself but when i first joined in May (?), yes, i was looking for a date, to meet up with people, to see where it all lead, etc and that has happened. Its unfortunate that we live so far away from each other, I'm in the Isle of Man and he's in Gloucester, but we have met and we're determined to keep travelling to see each other cause when we are together its brilliant.
I've had a lot of messages that i thought were a waste of time and its no different to going out and meeting someone in a club. Someone will come and chat you up and you decided there and then if that person is for you.
So all i can say is keep with it. I didn't really believe in things like this and its worked out well for me. Very Happy

I think it depends whether you mean date, or something more long term.

From what I gather, people on FB have more dates with other FB members than they admit to. I hear things Smile Reading through older forum threads, there seem to be a few long term relationships blossom from the pages of FB too, so despite the much talked about adverse ratio between men and women, there is hope for all - hang in there.....

I have so far met up with one woman from this website and a couple of other women from other dating sites. But nothing came of those meetings.

To be totally honest, I'm not actively looking for anything at the moment. It's more of a case of when the right person comes my way I will know.

A few years ago, every bloke was a possibility, but since then I've been going in more of the 'I would like to settle down with the right person' route. So if I meet someone I think could be right for me on here then ok, I'll go dfor it. But until then I'm happy just chatting to the lovely people on here.

Funny enough there has always been a much more even ratio of men and women on these forums..from what I can see much more even then the main site. Not sure why that is ?

I think most people either come here to look for a date of some description or to have a bit of a giggle. I've had a few chances but I'm far too fussy for my own good Confused
