I know what you mean about being 50...I'm 52 this year and i dreaded reaching 50 even though I have never bothered about age before. I think its because the last 10 years have gone so fast that the next 10 will go equally as fast and I will be 60! ...
Age is JUST a number .....and also 50 is supposed to be the new 30...which is as old as I feel most of the time... life is there to enjoy...

That's is partly what I mean...I think of things I did 15 - 20 years ago, and it only seems like yesterday. this decade [2000] has just flown by, and it seems I wasted it. Seems one minute you're 35 the next 50 Mad

I'm reflecting on my life and wishing I achieved more. Like not having kids for example, that is a big regret. But I still haven't given up hope on that Smile

To be honest reaching 50 wasn't a problem for me a day before my Birthday, but it is a slight one now when I see 50 on my profiles. I think do people [women] think its a lot older then being 45 ??..Do they think he's 45 I'll go with him...but he's 50 and he's too old ??

I know I haven't got a picture up..and there is a very good reason for that, there is method to my madness Razz ..and it does seem to be working Wink

The only thing that really becomes a problem with an age gap relationship, whether it be innocent or not is :
If you're older you have to watch them make all the 'mistakes'/learning curves that you had to deal with and not interrupt them.
If you're the younger party then you'll be trying to be all grown up and mature to keep up with them and potentially miss out on essential 'mistakes'/learning curves.

I think there's another factor that needs to be considered - that of 'future-proofing'.

A 20 year age gap might not be a big deal when the lovers are in the 20-45 bracket, but what happens when one is 70 and the other at a 50 year-old prime?

tim (also 49)

That is a bit of a concern I must admit....but I suppose it depends on what kind of relationship the couple have. But as I said, most relationships don't seem to last more the 5 years or so nowadays, seems to me anyway.

Jeg in fact anyone at all ... I am 53 and as I tell people i am 18 with 35 years of experience.

The experience bit means I do know what i want (and what i dont) It doesnt mean i get it right all the time .. wouldnt life be boring if i did?

Just be who you are - if age is an issue let me assure you lying about your age is more of an issue

Enjoy life and dont worry about stuff you cant change .... just worry about the stuff you can change ... its saves having an early heart attack!!!

be happy and have fun hunting ...it's often more enjoyable!!! Very Happy gets down off soap box xxxxx

I agree with most of that, and they are very good sentiments, thanks Wink

I'd never lie about my age, the truth always outs in the end anyway. Nowadays I find it difficult to lie about anything at all, mainly because I feel guilty.
Not sure its just an age thing, maybe a lot of people go through what I'm thinking and maybe in a years time it wont be a problem. Its not something that dominates my mind or life, or is really a concern, but just something at the back of my mind.

There is something that would make me feel a whole lot better...but I'd better not say. Something I have a great desire for at this time, which will probably never come about

Sorry if I'm talking in riddles....I have been accused of that before.

Can I just clarify something because I've had a bit of interest in this thread and a few messages [thanks], it’s not me being worried about age because I'm not.

I'm asking do people [younger people] perceive 50 as being a lot older then 49?..Does 45 seem a lot younger then 50 to people, even though its only 5 years? Does 50 seem a lot older ?

It’s not something I'm really worried about, just curious as to what people think.

This thread made me think a bit the other day and for some reason it came as a shock to realise I have friends around the 47-53 age mark. I don't count the over 49's as being any older but it made me more aware of my own age (thanks Jeggea!! Razz ).

So in answer to your question Jeggea, no, the extra year makes no difference Very Happy

I suspect people here will be polite and say no Smile

But here's a good indicator - when you're 45 - 49 very few younger people will comment on your your looks with regard to your age; from 50 onwards, younger people say silly things like "oooh, you look good for your age"

Most don't even wait til your 50! Feels great to be told I look about 35, but I'm still not sure how to take the 'you're wearing well for your age'! Confused

My pleasure Red

This message board has prompted this question. When I first came on here there were a few people older then me and a few in their 50's. But for different reasons they have all drifted away and have left me the old man of the board Laughing So now it feels there's certain banter that I cant enter into, whereas I had no problems a few months ago, even with younger people.

i was just wondering if people, especially newish people, perceive me any different now because I'm 50.

Not sure its just in my mind Wink

My friends range in age from 16 to 84. I think that people are interesting and you can gain a great deal of insight from having friends of all ages.

Aye, well I meant Monday mornings, but morning mornings too Smile Depends on the hours I've been working, sometimes those afternoon mornings are a killer too. Fortuantely I don't have too far to commute - I just roll out of bed, turn on the computers, make a coffee, roll a fag, go back to the computers, and I'm at work. Not many people can wear a comfy dressing gown to work either.

But I digress.

The next time someone messages me and tells me I look good for my age, I shall give them a virtual poke in the eye.

*joins in with the eye poking!*

The first couple of times you hear it, it's a compliment, now it's just reinforcing the fact I'll be 40 in a couple of months lol
