Having thought about it, I'd imagine the "short term" thing is there as a stop-gap between dating (which could imply seeing more than one person at a time (although not for me)), and long term, which might scare some people off who aren't looking to settle down.

So it's not really a casual relationship, which implies you see them when you feel like it, but maybe see other people.

I think it's a way of saying "we're not seeing other people, but not necessarily looking to stay together a get married".

At least that's what I'd imagine it to be.

It seems to me that everybody seems to have their own interpretations of what these terms, (long term,short term etc) mean, which i know will happen..and obviously unavoidable..
I just cant help wondering if this leads to problems for many down the line i suppose..especially when these are not the only two choices available either. you see many profiles which have a whole list of what they are looking for...one night stands, casual, etc..and then on top of that, the long and short ones..
so how do you let the other person know what catorgory they have been placed in after meeting them? and when? or what they mean to you?....they might have placed you in a different one to what you have placed them in..then the problems start maybe..

Everything, at some point in life, will cause a problem.

Early on when you're chatting to someone, i'm sure you'll establish what the relationship's about - if you don't, you're not an honest person, and there's no point in trying to find a solution for dishonesty!

That is a fair point Swisss. Nobody should put too much store into what people's profiles say they are looking for. If you are a member of this site then (I think) by default you are looking for something that does not exist for you, or you have not found, in the "real world".

I get the feeling that there are lots of people (mainly chaps) who want something, who want to have a conection with a person and they would not want to initialy define that in a long term way, so they say 'short term'

I must confess though that I am quite p!ssed, thursday night in the city.
